I have an 87 fiero, 2.5 liter. I have replace fuel pump, throttle positioning sensor, fuel filter, and a relay behind the drivers seat on the firewall. But it still is doing the same thing. I have had this fiero for going on 4 years now, with only 53,000 miles on it, when I first got it, it ran great. But after about a year it started to stall out under power, now it wont start unless I spray startin fluid in the throttle body, sometimes it will idle, sometimes it will just die right away. Also sometimes it will run fine for a minute then it starts the stalling out when I give it gas thing. also when you try to start it without starting fluid , it wont start but you can smell gas. One other thing is when it is running , and idling fine I can give it gas and it will run great , then when the cooling fan kicks on it will start the cutting out and sputtering under power. Can anybody help me ? This has frustrated me so bad, I love this car, it is one of them with T tops, and not the sunroof, plus it is very fun to drive when it ran good. I dont really want to get rid of it , but it is driving me nuts trying to figure this out, it is garaged, but I want to drive it, it gets wonderful gas mileage........please help me.

Can you see fuel being sprayed right out of the injector?? If no,I'm guessing the injector is bad electrically or just plain clogged.
Hope this gives you some help ! I have had some of these go bad on me .

A test light on the injector wires can tell you if the injecter is getting voltage, If it is then the injecter is cloged or malfunctioning.

does it sputter out when you turn the headlights on too ? My old 84 acted like that and I finally chased it down to a bad ground strap. It'd only take a minute to try popping a jumper cable directly from the negative post to anything clean on the engine block.

another thing to check would be the positive junction box by the battery tray. not usually too bad, but it is a common voltage source for a lot of the engine electronics

I would concur with Gilbert, Check the IAC(Idle Air Control) valve. It is basically a solenoid that moves a pintal(a conical shaped thing) in and out of an air passage(the Idle air circuit) to control the amount of air intake during idle speed. It is attached directly to the throttle body. A quick test would be to unbolt it, and turn the key to the run position- the ECM will move the pintle clear to both extremes before positioning it in the 'start' position. You may find that the IAC is frozen in a position that leads to an idle air mixture that is too lean during low idle. Good luck!
