Can't find modulator in 92

I have been all over and under my 92 Buick Regal Cistom with new modulator in hand and I just cannot find (on the front of the transmisison) anything that resembles a modulator. I have followed each hose coming from the intake manifold and I still can't find the modulator.
To see this modulator do I stand in front or lay underneath? How far from the mainifold is it? Do I stand on the belt side or the throttle body side or in the front? What other major engine organ is it near?
I am hoping that by changing this modulator I can drive my car further than down the street. Heaven forbid I have to cross an intersection. There are times the transmission clunks so loudly I expect it to fall out the bottom of th car any minute.
Will somone please hlp me pinpoint the loacion of the modulator?

Before you kill yourself looking for this, a bad modulator would cause late upshifts or would leak into the vacuum line and cause some tailpipe smoke, is this your problem/s.

well, yes, late upshifts among other things like clunking noises and bad take offs.

The modulator can cause late up shifts as Max mentioned, however, many other things can cause it too, like valve body solenoids, line pressure, pump, internal seals and so on. Try to be more specific on the "clunking sound and bad take offs". We need to know things like; is it taking off in 2nd gear and is the clunking sound continuous or intermittent and if it is internal or external. The more we know, the better we can help diagnose. You can waste a lot of time & money throwing parts at something, without knowing what the problem is. :confused:

Look under the area of the throttle body, driver's side of the engine where the tranny bolts up. If you have a 3.1 the vacuum line originates at the intake manifold right by the fuel pressure regulator and to the left of the throttle body from the front of engine facing in. Just follow the vacuum line down.
On the 3800, it originates at the Y split vacuum source right on the throttle body as you look at it from the front of engine facing in.
Both versions of the 4T60 (RPO - ME9) and 4T60E (RPO - M13) have a vacuum modulator. The modulator for 4T60 is much bigger than the one for the 4T60E and should be a small cannister shaped object. It is supposed to be located at either the front of the tranny or on top.

you can take to mod off and tip it up so the vac line area is pointing down and the part that went into the trans is up and see if tranny fluid runs out then the mod is defiantly bad.

The vacuum modulator on the 4T60 and 4T60-E transmission doesn't control shift timing, only mainline pressure. Follow the metal vacuum line down.
