2000 Buick Regal GS ,

One day I discovered I had a blown fuse for the HVAC controls, Radio & instrument cluster. Took it into the mechanic. Mechanic said he had found that it was a ground wire and made the repair ($345.00). Later on the next day I got pulled over due to the fact that I did not have working brake lights. Stopped & checked the fuse box and found that I was missing the fuse for the Stop lights. Replaced the fuse. Then discovered that every time I applied the turn signals that the car would die. Runs fine just as long as I do not use the turn signals.

Is anyone familiar with this problem. Any help is greatly appreciated. Please help !!

Sounds like you may have a defective multi-function switch in the steering column and it is affecting 12v for ignition at the ignition switch and wiring harness. Common problem on GM "W" bodies. Also if the brake lights are not working the 12v volt source originates at the multi-function switch.

Just to rule out an external short disconnect all brake and turn signal lamps then try another fuse. If fuse still blows with signals applied then I would believe it is a short in the multi-function switch or ignition switch or associated wiring.
