changing fuel filter

After reading mutilple post of stumbling and hesitation I will try and replace my fuel filter. But have a couple of questions?

'93 k1500

How do I go about replacing it?
Where is the fuel filter located?
Any specail tools needed?

On my 1997 it's located along the frame rail just about under the drivers seat. It has a steel line on the input and output and two standard wrenches is required to remove it. I think there is has a clamp that goes around the filter that holds it to the frame.

Easy as that! You will have some fuel leak out when you loosen the fittings so use the normal precaution's necessary. No need to bleed or vent off the fuel line though, I just kept a rag handy to soak most of it up before it splashed into my eye.

You need a 13/16 wrench, a 5/8'' flare nut wrench(Not a cheap one) for the line.You may have trouble getting the fittings loose,they get rusted up and will not come out easily.

Just did my '98 yesterday. The fittings on the filter and lines are metric, but the 13/16 will work (loose) and 5/8 will work (tight). The clamp on mine also holds 2 lines against the frame. 2 bolts, top & bottom, to take out. Just forward of the filter is another clamp with one bolt. You'll need to take that clamp loose to be able to move the forward line out of the way of the filter. Then slide the filter out of the clamp towards the front. The in & out lines have o-rings on them, so be careful. There will be fuel leaking when the lines are parted.

Consider using an anti-seize compound on the threads so next time you dont have to fight the rust. it makes it a whole lot easier next time.
