Fun upgrades

Hey guys.
I got a 94 jetta VR6 with just over 80k miles on it so the car still has a long life. I dont have much $$ but i'm looking to upgrade my 16.4 quarter mile stock. Im thinking about starting on cold air & exhaust so that hopefully some day soon i'll have $$ and a good base for a turbo. Anybody into the upgrades whose played with Jettas have any advice on parts?
