Was wondering if anyone can help me with my problem? I replaced the head gaskets on my daughters 97 lumina. Now it runs but it loads up with fuel. it gets so bad that fuel drips out of the muffler. Anyone have any ideas where to look for this problem. I also have to hold the gas pedal to the floor in order to get it started. I havent worked on cars for atleast ten years and am not to familar with fuel injection cars. It's a 3.1 liter eng. Thanks for any help with this!! Bob

sounds like the people that replaced the head gaskets messed with the tuning. my 95 lumina had the head gaskets replaced and it was getting around 22 mpg now it gets 30 to 32mpg at 75 mph iono what they did but it ran better till the tranny started acting up

sounds like youve got an injector hanging open. those things are a pain to check the injectors on due to the fact that theyre under the intake. you can take a blunt but thing object that you can tap with a hammer and put it on the injector body and tap each injector a couple times to see if itll unstick. not too much that you punch a hole in the injector or snap it apart or anything but enought o jar it loose internally.

or also could be a bad fuel pressure regualtor spilling gas into a vacuum line. Pull the vacuum line off the regulator, and turn the key to on, see if any gas comes shooting out. If any at all, the diaphram is leaving, and the fpr needs to be replaced.

Thanks for the help!! It ended up being a injector staying open. Replaced it and now seems to be fine. Thanks again! Bob
