keyless "chirp" noise

Hi everybody

I'm having a problem with my 2004 hatchback aveo. I bought the car about 3/4 weeks ago, and for 2 weeks I had no noise when closing the doors with the keyless remote.

Suddenly, as a christmas gift, the chirp noise started. It worked for 2 or 3 days, and now it stopped working again.

I'm not sure if this is related to the cold... During christmas eve, it was a lot warmer (40's).. Now it's back below 30's...

Has anyone experienced this problem? Does your car also makes noise when you open the doors or just when you close??

Thanks a lot!

I thought they only made the chrip noise when you lock the doors after exiting the vehicle with the key fob.

That's the point.. sometimes it makes the noise when I lock the car, sometimes it doesn't.

It's totally random. Yesterday it made the noise, but this morning when I left to work I tested it it didn't; when I parked at the office, it made the sound again..

Also, I know that the car has an alarm system because once, when I was inside the car and closed the doors, the alarm got activated. But since then, I was never able to repeat that, and I think the alarm is just not working.

Do you know anything about this?

im just taking a guess but maybe the door jamb switch is getting stuck pushed in causing it to think the door is open ... and maybe thats where the noise is grounded or tied in somehow.
I havnt heard of the problem tho, no.

Thanks, Ryan

I'll take a look at that today.

The panel has a light indicator that shows when one of the doors are open, and that works fine. Unless the alarm/lock system has a different switch, than that shouldn't be the problem.

Thanks a lot!

I have a 2006 aveo Hatchback and i have noticed that you really have to make a effort to close the doors. Because they are so light it takes more force than you would exspect to shut the door correctly.
The 'chirp' indicates the Alarm is active and functioning. If its not chirping your alarm is not working.

I highly suggest checking all your doors and hatch and trying it, and then take it to the dealer because im pretty sure that would be covered under warranty.

On my 2006 Aveo LT, when my alarm stopped "chirping", it was a bad hood switch. I ordered a new one from my dealer, received it and installed it myself. It's been working fine since. The part number is 965404548 and cost $7.50 USD. It comes with the boot and the attachment bracket but save the plastic screw from the old one to re-use.
