1000 HP Mustang Transmission

I know the stock 5 speed can't handle it.

A heavily modified C6 or a planetary tranny. The most I've seen a modern 5 speed rated for is about 500 lb-ft.

You can often find straight-cut gearsets for 5-speed manuals that will increase the torque capacity some, but probably not beyond about 600.

nah I need a transmission that can handle 1000 HP +. Have any ideas?

It has nothing to do with HP, its torque. I need to know how much torque the engine makes.

And like I said; built C6 or a planetary. They'll handle all the torque you can fit in a mustang.

nice and I mean if you modified it prob more Torque.

I'm sure you could squeeze more out of it with hard parts, upgraded servo's, kevlar bands and clutches...etc.. Just a note..the stock input shaft is very soft. I recommend replacing it with a hardened one..

Although the stock E4OD is a fine tranny, it must strongly disagree with this statement. A stock E4OD won't take much more than 400 lb-ft and at that is pretty shaky. The E4OD shares some in common with its C6 cousin, but the case, valvebody, and many things are completely different: not to mention the fact that all of it runs through an added overdrive.

After you read about how E4ODs fail behind 5.0s in daily driving if you don't keep them out of OD, you might change your mind. No stock automatic transmission will take 1000 lb-ft. The Allison 5 speed behind Duramax diesels is rated for 625 and it fails pretty easily behind the Duramax in stock form.

A properly fortified E4OD might take 600-700, but keep it out of OD... at which point you should just use a C6. Like someone said... with 1000 hp, who needs gears? Use a powerglide and 2.73 gears and you'll still be liquefying tires.

Haha, we had one of those in a COE dumper we had at work. Great tranny, but no synchros and 550 lbs ! I'm afraid that he might have to give up about half of his interior room in his mustang with the tunnel mods, and the shifter might have to stick out the sunroof :)

But the good news is with the SAE #0 bellhousing, he could fit a 24" clutch in it :biggrin:

I keep hearing about 1000 hp supras on stock bottom ends so I'd look there. If their goning to leave the bottome end stock, I doubt they felt like coming up with adapters for other trannies.

Again, its not HP, its Torque that determines how much a tranny will handle. Its quite possible to have an engine that makes 1000 hp, but only 600 lb-ft of torque. A supra is also a lighter car that has more trouble getting traction than a Mustang which plays a role in how much torque you can get it to take.
