Replacing Computer on 02 Malibu

Just hit 50,000 miles....and my car started stalling, then hesitating then finally not starting at all after numerous stalls. We had to have it towed to a shop. They said they have ran many tests and all the responses came back not making any sense. They are testing one more thing but are leaning towards the car needing a new computer...ANY thoughts from anyone would be greatly appreciated. Does anyone know off hand what the initial factory warranty is? Thanks much!

The Federal emissions regulation states the cat converter and PCM is to be trouble free for 8 yrs 80 K. Take the car to a Chevy dealer and they will check the computer and if it in fact bad they will install a new one under warranty. Call the dealer first and give them your VIN # and ask them if it is still covered, saves a lot of hassle. They need to verify that the computer is bad, if not the dealer will not get reimbursed by Chevy.

Not seeing many PCM failures on Malibus. I would be suspicious if that is the root cause.
If the PCM has failed, GM will cover it under the 8/80 emissions warranty.
I would have some further diagnosis done first.
