Primering Help

Hey all, i wanted to prime my car and leave it for a few months until i could get it srayed. I was wondering if after the prime, do i NEED to apply a sealer, or can i do that right before it is painted ? Will I be able to wash the car on a weekly bases or will it mess up the prime. THNX
