Just sitting here pondering the mysteries of the universe, and why I put on one red sock and one grey, when it struck me. The plastics of a 99-04 mustang's lights are smooth flat surfaces, in the way that glass is. If you wanted darker appearance for your lights without springing for smoked lights, could you not get an auto window tinter to just film them for you? Or even get ahold of some film and do it yourself for even more savings. Not only could you choose your own level of tint should you be concerned with local laws, there are even different colors, and mirrored films... think of it, a head light that looks like a mirror in the day, but shines straight through like a headlight at night! Brilliant! Just wondered if anyone else thinks that this could work? Now it's time to decide whether to leave the socks as they are, or change one... then i'd have to know which to change and where to find a suitable replacement.... c'est la vie...

Was it maybe a dumb question? Is that why no one responded?

I really don't know an answer. I don't know that it would work. Tinting is always on the inside of the car. I don't think that if you stuck it to the exterior it would stay put.
