clutch and parts question

The clutch on my 03 GTS makes a grinding noise at 6k rpm and the car doesn't pull any more so my guess is a bad pressure plate. I'm planning on buying a Spec clutch, but I am unsure whether to go with a Stage 1 or Stage 2. Right now, the car is bone stock and it will probably never receive serious mods. At most it'll get a CAI, upgraded cams and maybe an exhaust. I'm no stranger to stiff clutches, but I dunno.
Also, is there a site that caters to 3g eclipses? Most sites are for the 2g and I haven't found a site with its own 3g section. Where do you guys get your sh!t?

so your car stops pulling at 6k rpms? umm...yeah, there is a reason for that....and its not the clutch. your rev limit is at about 6200rpms. you make your max power at 5500 rpms. after 5500 rpms, you will start losing power. my suggestion.....don't replace your clutch. most likely, you don't need to have it replaced. and stop repeatedly taking your car up to 6k rpms unless you want to buy a new engine in the near future.
oh and for the site.... www.club3g.com

uhhh... get a CAI you prolly won't get the grinding anymore, i had a "grinding" sound after i took my car to the dealership and it turned out the other part of the intake was adhering itself to the hood and not allowing any more air in
andyou don't need to go any further than 5.5k anyways, nothing there but sucking air and dumping fuel

alright, i kinda fucked up when i said 6k. it happens at around 5k rpm, and i'm sorry, but i should be able to take my car to the redline without it acting weird such as making grinding noises. and if taking my car to the redline once a week is going to wreck the engine, then i bought one great piece of shit. so don't give me that crap.
PS: I have the infamous TOB rattle, so yea, replacing the clutch is something i'm dying to do, and that grinding just pushes me towards doing it.

OK, you would know if your clutch was slipping because your RPM's would still go up with the clutch out and in gear, but the car wouldnt move....and it would smell. If the problem you have is that after a certain rpm your tach goes up, but the car doesnt perform then it could be clutch. A bad noise after a certain rpm would make me think motor more than clutch. I would get it checked out before you self diagnose anything.

ok....now you described the problem a little better. so you get a grinding noise when you shift gears at high RPMS? if thats the case, its still not you clutch. say hello to the piece of shit V6 transmission. it is a common problem b/c the stock synchronizers are already shot.
the TOB rattle isn't always fixed by replacing the clutch. i've seen a number of guys just like you (think that replacing the clutch will fix the TOB rattle), still complain about it after replacing the clutch.
in the first post, you said that the car doesn't pull anymore at high RPMS. this could be caused by the rivets that hold the stock intake could have fallen off. this is a common problem also. if you need a picture of what i am talking about, let me know.
and taking your car up to redline once a week will not hurt the engine. you kinda come off as one of those guys who takes his car to redline from every stoplight.

if you can't shift it 1-2 when you are pushing it, try getting new shifter bushings from energy suspension and a shortshifter from RRE while youa re at it, i got my shift bushings and haven't missed a critical shift since!
do the RPM's continue to goup, or do they stay put?
either way go ahead and take off the lower part of the stock intake that terminates at the hood, i can get pics if you need

yea, i'm going to need pics of what you're talking about (the intake thing). also, i don't redline from red light to red light. i'll be honest, i race every once in a while, but that'll be once every one or two weeks, in all honesty, i don't do it cuz i'm still scared shitless to get another wreckless on my record, but yea, i did floor the fuck out of the car when i bought it (a month ago) and thats when i noticed the grinding. its pretty hard to *concentrate* on the tach when you're near the redline, i try to concentate on the road ;) next time i'll have a buddy look at the tach (no sarcasm intended). btw, i don't have any difficulty shifting between 1st and 2nd.

here is a picture....with the stock intake, you will have two rivets holding the intake down.
check to see if you are missing one or both of these

and this is what he's talking about, that scoopy kinda piece that is circled is what you should remove, it attaches where the arrow points on the side of the air intake box
and i didn't WATCH my rpm's either, i heard a noise, glanced at the gauges to make sure everything was ok, and it was stuck at 4k rpm... just really weird

That has to be the worst intake design of all time...I cut that thing off the first day I had the car because I didnt think there was any way for air to get in there...i guess i was right.

Yeah I had that problem with the car feeling like it was losing power at higher RPMS as well, and that was the problem. Since I put the pins in there I haven't had that problem since.

well, yesterday i went down some back street and watched my gauges, and you guys were right, its not the clutch, it pulls all the way through into the redline, so i'm going to check the that thing as soon as i get a chance. thx :)

well if it pulls until redline.....then there is nothing wrong with your car. that's what it is suppose to do.

took the damn air box box off and i'm running it with the filter taped to the upper part of the air box until i can find an intake. trying to decide whether to go with a no-name cheapo, an aem short ram, or wait to afford an aem cai
