I just got a 98 GT. I see the stock tires are 245/45/17.. I would like lower profile tires so i'll probably go with 245/40/17's. I was just wondering what the widest tire these rims would take is. Like what is the biggest that would fit without problems? Also what size is best?
Thanks

I don't think its a good idea to go lower profile than was designed for your car. I have seen 255's on mustangs already, and I have heard from others that 265's and even 275's will fit. I haven't seen 265's or 275's on stock rims personally though.

I used to run 275/40-17 in the rear of my old GT. That is as far as I would go on a stock GT rim. Any wider and it starts to get a little dangerous. You will notice the car tracking more with the wider tires.
