interior bulbs and fuel economy

I purchased a 2001 Tahoe and I have several bulb out(A/C, rear defrost and recycle). Does anyone else have this problem, and if so how do I replace them? P.S. How can I improve my gas milage/power?

Do I need a K&N cold air intake system or just the stock rectangular filter replacement?

There is a post here not too long ago about soldering in Radio Shack bulbs(p/n 7219 micro lamps)to fix your HVAC control unit. Same happened to mine but still under warrranty at the time. Next time I plan on doing it myself. The only other option is replace the whole unit.
