Check for piston slap. And the driver side seat the sholer rips and tears on all most all of them it is normal. Also do a carfax report on it to see if it was wrecked.

The rear in these cars is the weak link and a abused car will usually have a clunking rear, this is unless they swapped the gears ofcourse. Piston slap will only be heard if the car is in a cold climate and unwarm if your listening for it but even if it has it. According to GM, not a major issue but I agree I would rather have a vehicle without it. There are also other ways of seeing on 4th Gens if the car has been raced alot. The rear quarter panels get dimpled from chasis stress with tons of high throttle take off's. Also check the reverse and second gear engagement if its a auto. Commen issue to cause rebuild although the auto is not usually that weak of a tranny until you get into the major horse figures but then the t56 might be giving you issue's there also. Good luck, I hope you find what your looking for.

CarFax and a test drive should clear it up. Check all the major parts to see if they work. When i was gonna buy my bird the window on the passenger side broke. The guy said $50 max to fix it. When my dad took it to a shop the entire regulator had to be changed. It would have set us back $1500.

always helps to check first if its been babied! check oil, touch it..make sure the levels fine..make sure its not black...check to see if it was gritty..all those good stuff. also, check under the body to see if it hopped a bunch of curbs//rust spots.. between door hinges..always helps to check the shocks/springs too, if they've been changed recently or if they're stock..
that car sounds like its gonna be pretty expensive, if its only 50K miles..so yeah...be careful with that kinda $$$ O_O
and if the engine compartments clean, its a good sign..unless its squeaky clean..which means they cleaned it..and that doesnt help at all... :P
