windshield wipers stop in upright postion

My daughter's 2002 Grand Prix's wipers have stopped at the 12:00 o'clock position rather than tucking down when she turns the vehicle off. The car has about 60000 mile on it. Any suggestions?

It is a common problem if you live in an area with snow. A metal tab at the end of the wiper motor bends out of place causing the wipers not to retract and go to park position. See old link below:
