Ok, so you're in a town you've never been to no one knows who you are. You kind of disguise yourself just in case, like this:bandit: , you go to a dealership. and there's your dream car, wether it be a ferrari, viper, skyline, or for any pudwackers an aztek. Would you "test" drive it and just never return it. run the shit out of it, then dump it some 4 states away? If i knew i could get away with it i would.

I'd do it, but ONLY if I knew for sure that I won't be caught :)

Does this belong in Philosophizing (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/f697/)? It is certainly a moral dilemma. Would you break a rule if you knew you wouldn't get caught?
Me: no. I would not want someone to do it to me, therefore I won't do it to someone else.
The real question is:

If i knew i could get away with it i would.
How do you really know? How sure do you have to be? 90%? 99%? 99.9999%? :)

Im talking about from a dealership so it wouldnt nessesarily be stealing from a person, the cars arent actually owned. are they? as for how sure, i couldnt be, it would never be a 100% thing theres always a chance of being caught. and also just to add in real life and not "internet" life i never would steal a car it is a moral line, that i wouldn't cross. jesus maybe this does belong in philosphy.
as for igor stealing your keys...i bet he would.:D

You have to think of the stakeholders in the situation. If I was in charge of the dealership, I'd probably fire the poor dumb salesperson who handed you the keys. So you just got that guy fired. (hypothetically) ;)

The dealership might have cameras in the parking lot.
I have NEVER had a salesman ride in the car for a test drive.
i would have my cousin do it, he is a professional con-artist.

You've never had anyone from a dealership ride with you? Thats weird, any time i've test driven a car from a dealership someone has always riden with me. How old are you? Maybe its because im a kid and they think i'll just go out hot roddin in their car, which is basically what you want to do, right? I mean you want to see what it can do before you buy it dont you?

You guys are nuts! How could you even think of pulling off something like that? Whether you do it to a person or to a dealership, it's a moral dilemma and surely there will be extremely negative consequences! A true man affords his own car out of his own pocket, whether it's a GEO or KIA. Now that's respect! Cheers!

A sales guy has always gone with me...always.
Only exception was when I was checking out motorcycles...I don't know why they didn't want to ride with me then..

Hey Bean Bandit, when did you join the Militia? Anyways, I would steal a car if I had these four things.
1. A very good knowledge of how to handle the car.
2. A storage facility for the car (If I stole I sure wouldn't ditch it!)
3. A knowledge of the Locator on the car/ Knowledge of theft deterent devices.
4. A plan that has a schedule and Map telling me what to do.
I would only steal a car If I had these four things and the will to actuallly steal one. I would do it like this so I didn't screw myself over and accidently take a wrong turn as I was fleaing or roll the car or something like that.

Well, now that I know not to turn by back to any of you...  ... a legitimate part of the question is what do you do with it after you steal it? Ditch it? Disguise it? Hide it?
What good is it if you don't drive it? And how are you going to avoid getting caught if you do? You know it'll be reported stoled within the hour... What do you do?

Take it down to Tijuana and hope to get a couple grand...
If you get stopped by the cops down there, you'd have to give them the car for a bribe. that would suck, but better than going to jail down there...:uhoh:

Ok, first off remember guys this is all hypothetical.:) so dont go stealing a car.
Disguising the car really wouldnt work, someone would eventually look at the VIN and bam your busted. best thing to do is ditch it.
hey silver watch out man, im coming for your model s2000:D

Just thinking again, what If you wanted to pull off a huge heist and did this;
1. Go apply for a job at a High-End dealership (Bentley, Ferrari, Lamborghini) and then become the guy that manges the lot.
2. One day when there is a new shipment of cars, drive them into the back lot or warehouse but leave them and any others unlocked.
3. That night, get a car transport truck (Has to be covered) and then load the cars into the back and drive off to somewhere far away and come back the next day and work there for a few months, then quit.
If you could do it you could probably make a pretty penny. It is a lot of work but with a few other details worked out, you could pulled it off (with some friends) and then nobody would suspect you if you still worked there for a bit.

Especialy I'm working there on a Super Puma transport chopper, which means a quiet interesting subject and the posibility to fly around from time to time:D :bandit:

but if you moved somewhere with all those super expensive cars wouldn't people ask how you support your lifestyle?
that's the only thing that i don't get, how do you explain having millions of dollars but working at like mcdonalds? (if you robbed a bank) don't people ask questions?

That's issues I don't want to have to deal with, that's why you move to like Beverly Hills and keep the cars and just live in some Decent shack and claim you really like fast cars. BTW, Bean Bandit, what's up with all of this Militia stuff if you live in Switzerland? Isn't that a Neutral country like Sweden? Or is it one of those mandatory Service things like Greece?

I say move to a really small town, where no one will ask questions, or just somewhere out in the country. So you can hide them some where in a barn or something.
