Ok, In September the timing belt broke on my sister's civic. Her husband replaced the belt and water pump. Funny thing is he didnt put antifreeze in the car.Well the honda froze one morning and she said it started getting hot and didnt have heat.

Last week I ordered another head loaded already with cam.I swap head and gaskets. I than SLIPPED ON THE T/BELT,and TIGHTEND the tenseiner.Car started right up,but still over heated.at first I thought i didnt get the air bled out,but after some scraching of the head i figured out that the ice broke the water pump, cause coolant was not flowing properly.

So again i loosen the tensienor and pulled off the t/belt and replaced the water pump (wich was bad after all).
I slip the belt back on and the car wont start?
I check the timing marks on the cam,and crank and notice the they all dont line up.

I BRINK THE CRANK OVER TO TDC. AND NOTICE THE (UP) ON THE CAM IS OFF JUST A HAIR SO I RE-ALIGN THE MARKS INCLUDING THE ONE POINTING DOWN AT ABOUT 7 O'CLOCK.

I MAKE SURE THE CRANK IT AT TDC. BY THE MARKS ON THE CRANK PULLEY.
SLIP ON THE BELT 1/4 TURN AND TIGHTEN THE TENSIONER.
STILL wont start.

QUESTION? STARING AT THE CRANK PULLEY I HAVE 3 MARKS THAN JUST TO THE RIGHT I HAVE 2 MARKS .Wich SET OF MARKS ARE TDC.
I seen a picture on here but it showes the 2 marks to the left not the right of the 3 others like mine.
What am I doing wrong I took off the belt put it on and it ran i took it back off out it on now it wont.
ALSO IS THERE a sensor that will shut down the spark? like if not enough collant in it?
This is not the first time ive replaced honda timing belts, but ive also never had a car not run after wards.

Since no one replied I thought I would.
Crank pulley You should have one white mark by itself (TDC) and then the other marks and for timing. They should be a red mark with two unpainted marks to either side of the red one. (this is your 16degree mark and the other two are your limits + or - 2degrees

As for the cam pulley you should have three marks You got the first one (top) If you align "top" up you should see that the other two marks line up with the valvecover gasket face.

I would suggest you remove #1 plug to verify TDC and remove the dizzy cap and make sure the rotor is pointing toward number one wire.lineup the marks one more time and slide the belt on. When you adjust the tensioner loosen the bolt and turn the crank counterclockwise three to five degrees(Just a little bit) then tighten the tensioner bolt.

I hope this helps you out.
Been there done that.

does it crank? assuming the timing belt, cam gear, and pulley looks good. is there fuel? is there spark?
