where is the obd plug 97 aurora ?backfiring

we are working on moms car and took car to auto zone or other and they can't find where to plug into 97 auroa low gas mileage and backfiring

Molded port into the lower cover of the steering column, left of the steering wheel, all the way down.

Poor gas mileage and backfiring could well be the coolant temp sensor--if you get a reading like "low coolant temp," that is definitely what it is. It basically chokes the engine by dumping more gas into it because it thinks that the engine temp is 30 degrees or so lower than it really is.

Hi... Are you confusing the low coolant sensor in the recovery tank with the incoming air temp sensor in the airbox? I thought the airbox sensor was the one linked to the enrichment circuit, but not positive.
