I recieved a CD changer from a member of my family and need some help installing it. I have a '97 Tarus with stock head unit. It has a CD changer option. The changer only has an 8-pin plug on the back. Diagrams and websites would be helpful.

Thanx.

I'm fairly sure that aftermarket changers will not interface with the factory head unit. You'll have to by an aftermarket one w/ the scosche or chutchfield adapter plate.

I thought that most CD changers would have about the same interface with maybe the exception of connector types or maye a pin or two.

Update:

I went out to my car and peeled back the trunk lining on the driver side to expose my sound system amp thingy. There is a missing plug in there which I found out is for a CD changer. So now the task should just be converting my 8-pin CD changer to fit in the open slot, right? If so, can someone let me know how that would work?

go to http://www.crutchfield.com
for an adapter or go to ebay and take a chance.
Also a local stereo installer should have an adapter.

Thanx. I think that might have been a lot of help. Here's the adapter I found (http://www.crutchfield.com/S-FoPpgaqTSSa/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=234450&I=469FRDRKNN).

Now, I just need to know if i can find it cheaper, but if not just how to hook it up. I see where some of them go, butothers I'm less sure of. Please hang with me. Total n00b.

Never mind. Found a diagram (http://www.pie.net/images/products/diag/frdr-knn-diag.gif). Thanx for all your help, though.

You are welcome. BTW I just looked on ebay and see # 8024488131 which is a

PIE FRDF/PC-KNW Ford Kenwood CD Changer Adapter D

starting bid is 6.95 plus frt of 7.00.

A whole lot cheaper than Crutchfield.

I think there may be another problem. The CD changer connects through an 8-pin... connector. The PIE adapter says something about 14-pin. will this work?

Check ebay for a wiring harness, or a salvage yard. I just sold one cheap [30.00], on ebay.

Also look around the area under the carpet near the antenna, It seem most taurus cars with the CD in the head unit were pre wired at the factory. The wires in mine were rolled up and taped out of the way. I only had to remove some electrical tape. It was a piece of cake to plug in, and it works perfectlt.

I saw that wire too. What's that for?

A quick update/recap, the cd changer I'm wanting to install came out of a '96 VW Audi Avant. The only connector I see on it is a male, 8-pin DIN connector. I'm trying to fit it into a '97 Ford Taurus.
