manual remote start

i have a 5spd Saturn SC2 DOHC 1.9L and i was wondering if i could successfuly have a remote starter installed in it? and if so would there be any problems to expect?

In a word, no. You can't because of the 5 speed. You could disconnect the safety switch, but if you or a friend left it in gear, (which is how it should be everytime you stop the engine) bye-bye saturn.

Physically you could do it, but you will regret it later when you're hiring a tow truck to remove your car from a side of beef two counties over. :)

when i park it i normaly leave it in neutral with the e-brake on. so your tellin me its not reccemnded at all? i was thinkin about tryin to get a remote start and keyless entry combo pak. i should just get a stand alone keyless entry instead?

The problem is you said "normally leave it in neutral." One time of not leaving it in neutral will either start the car in gear if the starter has enough torque, or break something pretty spectacularly. you could break the tabs right off the clutch cover that hold the starter in place, strip the teeth off the flywheel or starter, start a fire with 300 amps of electricity dead-heading at the starter.

I disabled the starter safety switch on a 5 speed once because you had to mash the clutch to get it to start. The next day a friend borrowed it and accidentally drove it off a 3' wall in a parking lot because its in gear.

The other inadvisable reason is because your parking brake is designed to supplement parking, not create it. If you forget to put your car in gear on a hill and it cools off at night you might find your car somwhere else. Plus, parking brakes wear out and the cable stretches over time.

Get in the habit of leaving it in gear. And I say skip the remote start. If you really want to do it, its certainly your choice, but you'll have to do it yourself since shops aren't legally allowed to do it (at least in any of the states I've lived in) because of liability.

thanx. so when i park leave in first or reverse? and no remote start at all? i suppose ill just suffer and do it the hard way in the cold weather. lol. and just stick with gettin a stand alone keyless entry? for a 92 do you know if it would be possible to hook one up like the newer cars with an after market one that has a trunk release and will blink the head lights when i lock or unlock it? again thanx for the help.
