How much HP does a 1991 civic dx with 1.5 liter engine make? My wife has one and Im trying to figure out why its so sluggish and slow. Dont know if there is something wrong with it or if it just makes crappy HP.
thanks

since its a 1.5 liter sohc non v tec. i'm guess your gettin around 92 hp at the wheels.

113 engine, 92 at the wheels, sounds correct

I have no clue when v-tec came out sooo...heh....

Yeah, it sucks. I have a STD hatchback, which is even worse. It only has about 70hp!

v-tec came out in 92 but it wasnt until 96 (i think) they started to label the car that had it.

v tec came out in 90 on the NSX, then the first car to have v-tec besides the nsx is the second gen integra gs-r in 93 which has a 1.7 liter v-tec. in japan the EG Si-R II has a B16A so that was v tec also.

the dx doesnt have 113 at the crank considering the si only has 108.
i think it has somewhere around 90 hp, with the shitty dpfi fuel setup.
tat, youre forgetting the jdm ef civic sirI that came with the b16a :D

The 91 DX makes 92. Also Vtec did come out in 92, and they began to label the cars that had it in 94, beginning with the integra gs-r. The gen 2 GS-R (90-93) I think also had vtec, but I doubt it was labled

Yes, the 90-93 GSRs were labeled and had VTEC(b17a). The VTEC logos were on both sides of the fender moldings next to the doors. The LS/GS/RS non-VTEC models just had DOHC on them.

Did you hear me? I've only got 70hp! I'd be happy to have 92... Of course the crx EF is even worse than the STD with 62hp.

Ummm... if you're talking JDM then you are forgetting the '90 Integra with the B16A and EF8 CRX and EF9 Civic - also with B16A. And yes, they were labelled as VTEC powered - do I need to post pictures of the proof or has everyone seen them enough times? :finger:

BTW - Europe also got the EE8 CRX and EE9 Civic - in '90 - once again B16A powered.

I hear you.

And wow a whole 70hp!!! you know thats less hp at the crank than I have at the wheels? Infact if you think about it I have more than twice as much HP at the crank than you do. :D

sorry.

ahh the 90-93 integra didnt come all years with the gsr. the 90-93 integra didnt come gsr until 92. so 92 is the first year of the gsr.

I'm doing the mpfi swap soon, does anyone know how much HP that'll add to the 70?

94svt5.0: you drive a cobra and your wife has to drive a 92 hp civic? man.. that sucks!

I have a d15b2 (92 HP) and I have heard that the swap adds about 15 HP, it will probibaly have around the same HP as the Si.

I have the STD with only 70hp. If the swap put me at around the Si (108hp) it would have to add 38hp. Is that what you meant?

crxlvr

doing the dpfi-mpfi swap will not give you 15hp, 7-8 at best, to match the si hp, you will still need the cams and shit from an si engine to make the same amount.

the PRELUDE was the first honda to have VTEC. and the standard DX is 92 HP at the wheels. The DX has a slightly different final gear ratio than the LX and EX models to have lower highway RPMs. If you want to perk up your civic a little bit, then put in some fuel injector cleaner, and change the air filter. Plus that'll really improve your gas milage.

fatninja19

what type of fuel injector cleaner do you recomend? my van has over 143k miles on her. gas mileage improvement would be nice.

just the STP stuff in the black bottle. Just put it in your gas tank on a full tank of gas, and you should notice a difference, especially on higher milage cars.

the si tranny makes a differece as well. it may not "add hp" but the gear ratio is waaaaay better than the Dx.

i had a dx and picked up the si. the dx just sat for months. i drove the dx one day and i swear i felt like i was moving in slow motion (lol). a lot of that feeling came from the tranny.

ahh now that make's sense.
And yes I believe the H22 made its appearance in '93.

However it has nothing to do with Civic's.

mustangs have more 'low-end torque' anyway don't they?

i mean, if i was going from a mustang (a cobra at that...) to my wife's civic i would probably feel the same sluggishness even if the thing had the same ammount of HP, their powerbands are really different arent they?

my civic doesn't start to feel like it has any power until I get it into the right rpm range (which is near the redline anyway)

I think it's all about how you drive it, I think those little 80HP hatchbacks can be just as fun as anything else (sometimes more if its not your car, heh).
