Brake/Shifter not syncd

Hey,
For as long as I can remember, I've been using the shiftlock-override to shift my car. At one time way back when, my brake was sychronized with the shifter , I don't remember when it stoped working.
Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?

Hope Everyone has a really Great Christmas and Happy New Year!!!

Thanks:

This is either the neutral safety switch (there is a check for this in the Haynes manual), or the shifter cable adjustment. Neither is very difficult.

Do your brake lights work?

Yes, my brake lights do work but, I've always had the back light signal on my dashboard on. I've changed all the bulbs at one time just to see if that would help and didn't. Now the lights on the dash don't come on until I depress the brake, that's when they come on and stay on until I shut it off. I also have read in one of these post that I need to put Toyota made bulbs because of the voltage difference from generic bulbs. That, I have not tried yet.

I'll check on that neutral switch and the shifter cable adjustment.

Thanx for the FB

Check out the brake light switch. It sends a signal to the shift interlock when the brake pedal is pushed to release the shift lock solenoid allowing you to shift from park.

I have a 91 camry that just started needing to have the shift lock out button depressed to put in gear and am unsure other that maybe a fuse or curcuit breaker ( which I have checked) how to correct. The car is fine other than that, has 123000. Any ideas?

Welcome to the AF!

What is different about your problem than that addressed by csaxon above?

The one thing that I hadn't checked was the brake light switch at that point.
Having checked it, that was the problem; $12.00 part and a fun time getting to it, it's working.
Thanks
