I just wanted to get people's thoughts and opinions on these two cars and what would you rather have in your garage and why. The 1994-1996 Chevrolet Impala SS vs. the 2003-2004 Mercury Marauder.

Impala SS hands down, looks better, it's quicker to 60 and through the 1/4, and holds it's value like none other.

Tough choice. I have always been partial to that generation impala the iron block lt1 motor is a great motor with a vast amount of potential. The marauder isnt a slouch either. I think I would personally go with the marauder.

The Marauder is RWD IIRC and the Impala hasnt been RWD for a while...

^^^They're both RWD

I would easily go with the Marauder, much better looking. The SS is a frickin boat, and handles like one too.

^ i agree, not to mention that the marauder makes a good deal more HP and almost as much TQ with 1.1L less displacement.

I found some 0-60 times on both the cars and the Impala is the quicker car. The quickest time for the Impala was 6.5 while the Marauder was 6.9 and the slowest for the SS was 7.1 while the Mercury's slowest time was 7.5. A lot of magazines complain that the Marauder doesn't have enough low end torque. I would take the Impala hands not just because I'm a Chevy man but it's going to be worth alot more down the road. I seen mint 1996 Impala's go for up to $25,000 while i seen a 2003 Marauder with 12K miles for $18,995.

.4 seconds faster?

like its even noticable unless you're racing both cars head to head.

Right, I agree completely. Neither of these cars are racers, they're daily drivers that harken back to the old musclecar days. I personally would take the Marauder just because it's more modern, that's it. I loved the Impala in it's day but I really wouldn't care to own one today. Both cars are boats with v8's, that's all. I want a car that's just as fun to turn and stop as it is to step on the gas. And these cars aren't all that fast anyway. However, if I've got to pick one, I say Marauder.

LT1 vs. 4.6 DOHC? Pretty close in my book. Both are heavy mothers, in terms of intimidation, if the Maurader was black (jk) and the impala was black, you wouldn't want either behind you if you were doing something you shouldn't be doing at 3:00 A.M.
