car wont start after sitting

Alright i am new to this posting stuff but i really need some help here. I worked on my sisters 1996 aurora this past summer and just did a tune up (plugs, wires, airfilter, etc) and everything was working fine. About a week later she gets a new car and my parents take the aurora and stick it in the garage. So then i head of for college and two months later (around this october) my dad calls me and says the car wont start. Now its christmas break and i have been working on the car trying to diagnose and figure it must be some type of fuel problem from have sat for two months. Maybe something got clogged up. I replaced the fuel filter and unpluged the fuel line that goes to the fuel rail to see if the fuel pump was pumping gas, and it was. Alot of threads mention the fuel pressure regulator being the possible culprit. But when these go bad doesnt it usually mean that the car will start but it will be just harder to start. Also if the car sits for about an hour and you go to crank it it will start up for about 2 seconds and then shut off. Any additional attempts to start the car after that result in very little response from the motor. If you wait the hour again, however, the car will once again start up for a few seconds and then shut off. What the hell is going on?

This definately sounds like a fuel pressure regulator. If the regulator does not hold pressure then the car may start but shut down quickly. Remove the vacuum line and try to start the car. If any fuel comes out of the vacuum hole then the regulator has a hole in the diaphram and will need to be replaced. One other way is to use a fuel pressure guage and attach it to the fuel rail and see what pressure you get. I am not certain what the pressure is on an Aurora but it should be at least 45 to 55 lbs when the pump is running. If it is less or drops quickly then the regulator is bad or the fuel pump is going bad.

If the car sat for an extended period with little fuel in the tank the pump may have corroded and the pump is seizing up.

normal fuel pressure for the classic aurora is 41-47 psi..check your fuel pressure.this will give you a good idea,if infact you have a fuel related problem.

thanks for the help guys i will borrow my uncles fuel pressure tester and let you know what i find.

It Is your Fuel Pump For sure my car was Doing the same thing it sat in my yard for weeks we changed fpr fuel filter and even tested if the fuel pump sent gas it did but it was not powerfull enought we put a new one in cranked it twice started right up
