I'm new to these threads so hopefully I can help you guys and get some help myself. I bought my Jeep a year ago and the fuel pump wemt within a week, replaced it no problem. Maybe a month later I replaced wires, plugs, cap, rotor, air filter for general maintenance purposes. Now the past month or so when I am driving and stop at a light the rpm's will drop extremely low and sometimes shut off. I then changed the TPS and IAC motor but still having the same problems. Hot or cold. Went to 2 different mechanics and they told me they couldnt find anything wrong. My girlfriend and I rely on this Jeep for school and work so I NEED help please.

my 94 jgcl 5.2 has the same problem except mine does not stall. it just idles rough and feels like its gonna stall sometime. it also hesitates when i give it the gas. the truck runs perfect after 1000 rpms. i read somewhere that it could be the battery. i am going to change it as soon as funds are available to do it then i wil let you know how i made out. I changed my iac also but not the tps or cps cuz thats too much monet to throw away if its not the problem.

The battery being a problem sounds odd. Along those lines I would say a weakness in the ignition system. Not sure what the background is on the battery though. I had a compression test done and cylinder 3 and 4 were about 8 psi lower then the other cylinders. Would that make enough of a difference to "sometimes" make the rpm's drop and not consistantly? And then how do I find out if I have a problem with the piston rings or the valves? Thanks for posting by the way.

Bump. I must've spent about two grand so far on my Jeep and if anyone has symptoms I can look for or any advice at all I would greatly appreciate it.
EDIT: I just did the on-off-on-off-on and the check engine light flashed 5 times, pause 5 times. I read that I should get a 2 digit code and it seems to be 5-5. I hope my angel is out there somewhere and can give me some news.

55 is the end of code string marker. The bad news is that '95 is obdII system. That means the fault codes stored are 3 digit and will need to be scanned for access. The two digit system is obsolete.
Your battery is not at fault unless your alternator is dead. Unlikely.
I would clean out the throttle bore with carb spray and check for a sticking egr valve.
You need to scan the pcm next. Or at least stop by a dealer and look through the service bulletins. (The feds require them to let you finger through them.)

This may not be the best news that you wanted, but , I have a 95 GC limited and have the loss of power, rpms dropping, slipping, dying and almost anything else you can imagine, but she still runs. The problem is simple to say, you have a tranny leak in either your transfer case or your rear differintiel. The solution isnt always simple. You may have a dark oil and tranny fluid residue built up all over the bottom of your jeep and this causes the simpleton mechanics to miss this on their evaluation. The fix for this, depending how long you plan to keep your jeep, can be cheap or expensive. If you dont plan to keep it long just fill it with Tranny fluid (remember that it holds up to 12 quarts so you dont have to worry about over filling) about 3-4 quarts every 2 weeks. If you plan to keep it longer, take it to a certified chrysler mechanic and tell him you need the seal on the back pumpkin replaced and/or the transfer case seal replaced. I hope this helps and Im speaking from experience I have a Jeep, my wife has a Jeep and two of my cousins have Jeeps. Great vehicles, they just leak.

Heres a link to a page showing the component locations: http://www.autozone.com/servlet/UiBroker?ForwardPage=/az/cds/en_us/0900823d/80/15/24/81/0900823d80152481.jsp
I wouldn't replace it yet. See if its sticky first. It might be fine.
