Check the headlight fuse in the Power Distribution Box under the hood to see if it is blown.

what year car is it?

On my 94 Intrepid the dimmer switch on the steering column had gone bad. The headlights would go to high beam when holding the turn signal back but would go out once released. Replaced with recycled part for about 60 dollars.
