Is this normal?

The other day when my mom pulled up I noticed that the Y pipe on her exhaust system was glowing a bright red. I was just curious if this was normal or not. The engine never overheats or anything but it does run kind of rough.

No, thats not normal. Check for a bad cat converter. It may be almost completely plugged.
