horrible Gear Trouble! !

I have a oldsmobile Alero 2002, And I got a problem on gear recently.
after starting and shifting the gear to "D", the car just goes backward.
push gas, goes backward faster!!
"shift to "3" then shift back to "D" , or turn off the car and restart" can solve the problem.
this happened twice, but it is really scaring. So, everytime when I start it , I must be very cautious.
does anybody has any idea of what' s going on?
