2 of the 3 brake lights are out on the ol escort, the left brake light is the only one remaining, i replaced the right brake light but then noticed that the old one wasnt burnt, i also noticed that the 3rd brake light (top middle) had fallen out, but i couldnt determine if it was burnt. I thought it was strange that the new bulb wouldnt turn on after replacing, i bought the car for my gf and i didnt get a chance to check out the 3rd bulb and she is 4 hours away, but i will be going back shortley to do more work. Just wondering if they all have to be connected or somthing for them to work, like if there on a contiunious wire, replacing the 3rd one would turn on the right one. I checked the fuses in the engine bay but none of them looked burnt. I dont know if there is fuses in the cab to check. Any information would be apreciated.

Check for corrosion where the bulbs seat - I use sandpaper taped to a small flathead screwdriver to clean the contacts. Also, you may not be able to see a break in the filament and bulb will still be broken. Try all new ones - they're real cheap.

Are you sure it's the right bulb? You need an 1157. Many people mistakenly install an 1156 which looks the same. The 1157 has two contacts on the bottom and the 1156 only has one.
(You didn't state the year so I guess it's an 'older' Escort.)

Well yeah i stated the year in the title, (93). I got the right bulb (Has 2 metal thingys on the bottom) and i also got the dude at advanced auto to get em for me (looked em up on computer). I remember looking at the connectors inside the seat, they didnt look bad but im not going to count that possibility out just yet. Thanx for the tip.

Yup, you did say '93'. Is the right side tail light working? I think they share a ground.

The only light working is the left, the top and right are not working, i replaced the right bulb and it didnt come on, i have yet to put a bulb in the top since the autoshop didnt have the bulb in stock, im hoping that one at least works cause with just the left bulb working it is really unsafe, already sweatin bullets about my gf drivin in the first place.

You ought to get a test light and see if there is power there at the socket. Ground the test light on the body somewhere. If you do show power then you have a ground problem.
