2002 transmission problem post 90,000 tuneup

2002 grandam se1 6cylder. 92,000 miles. automatic transmission. I brought it in for the 90,000 service. Day after i picked it up i notice very sluggish response. Slow acceleration and car shifts into top gear at 4000 rpm.
They supposedly replaced the transmission fuel and filter.
This sound like a familiar problem to others?

If this is a new problem check to see if the fliud is full, then take it back and let the shop recheck their work.

90K is a lot but not that much if everything was fine beforehand. Question-Is the tranny, if you manually shift it working fine.--Sometimes when these things get done when your car is in drive your starting in 2nd --not dropping into low gear on its own-cause is- something got stuck-up--dirt in the valve body or any other place that controls the shift will do that. They used to have governors and modulators that used centrifugal force along with vacuum for the governor for the timing of the shifts. Definetely take it back !! NOW-don't wait for anything else to happen. Not a big fan of trans fluid changes if it looks good, doesn't leak. I've seen the flush machines cause as much damage as they do good. Sometimes if everything looks and smells good just dropping the pan and cleaning the filter is all that is necessary. U get enough oil out and don't diturb to many inside components. What kind of tranny is in the car, they all have names such as "turbo-hydromatic 200" and so on. Also all modern trannys have some sort of electrical connection that monitor and tell it what it should be doing. Post back when U find out what went wrong and good luck.

dumb question but i looked under the hood last night and couldnt find the stick to check the trans fluid. I did notice that the car shifted fine when the engine was cold but after it warmed up, it lost any quick acceleration.

Well they either forgot to replace your stick-which does happen-or you did. At the tranny shop they will have a multitude of sticks. They buy cores from junk yards and strip them down to be rebuilt or if they're to far gone just gut them for all the good parts. Don't know about the hot shift but I'll be stopping by my friends shop later so i'll post for you. You should REALLY take it back now especially with the stick gone. Its probably laying around the shop or left under your hood and now part of a parkway. TAKE IT BACK. Make sure you tell them that all these problems were not present before and be a bitch ( not to bitchy-yet firm) about the stick even if it was you-Blame them. Fluid will blow up the pipe on occasion. Why are'nt U there already !!!!!!!!!!!! Get a move on man.

what i meant was i can't locate where the stick would be. I didnt see a open tube where the stick would slide into. as far as bringing it back, the service dept is closed today due to the holiday (car dealership).

I don't believe the 2002 has a stick. I think you check it from under the car. I think it is supposed to be a sealed unit. At least that is what I think.

Your transmission does not have a dipstick! There is a square plug, facing the passenger side, that has to opened after the car has been operating for a few minutes and then you take the car throught the gear reange. If no fluid leaks you are low and need to add fluid until it leaks. Also, the car has to be level for this procedure to work. So you basically have to be on a lift to do it right. Jiffy Lube might check it for you if you get an oil change.

Good news, problem was not the transmission. Bad news loose part in catalytic converter.
needed a replacement.
