Boosted CRX vs SRT-4

So while I was waiting for my friend to finish installing my exhaust on my mustang I decided to take out our CRX equipped with a b18, t3/t04 turbo, and a 50 shot. After driving around for a while looking for races I see the local "car club". I drive up to the parking lot and a get a few unwelcoming glares from the people standing by their cars. I ask the people there if to be racing tonight (theres a long strip of road where nobody goes where everybody races at on friday nights). A guy comes up to me and inform me that his friend wants to race me. He also informed me that it would be a waste of my time since his friend drives an SRT-4. I tell him that I am still interested in racing the guy. He goes over and tells his friend. They go around telling everybody that somebody from their club has "been challenged". So I'm there for a little while and we all finally agree to go out to the "quartermile". There are about 10 cars pulled off to each side of the road to watch. So I get in the right lane and the SRT-4 pulls off to the other side of me.

Before the race begins he gives his engine a pretty loud rev and gets the attention of everybody standing around. "Smoke his ass Chuck" some idiot yells out from the side. I decide to return his rev with a rev of my own as well as a whistle from my BOV, to wash this all down I give him a little sip of N20 from a purge valve localted in my front fenders. A guy gets in between us and asks us if we're ready. We both nod and the guy steps forward to give the signal. As the guy drops his hands we both take off.

To summarize the rest of the story:

Vroom pssshhhh 2nd
Vroom pssshhhh 3rd
Vroom pssshhhh 4th

After that I had him buy about 7 car lengths at the end of the quartermile.

I respect srt's because they can be made damn fast but people who know little about cars in general can buy them and think they are king of the street and just act like total assholes this is what gives cars and owners a bad name for any brand/car

hahah you don't need to run 8's to beat a 13 second car by 7 cars. 8 second car will beat a 10 second by like 20 cars. i would say a mid to high 12 second car should be suffcient enough to beat a 14 flat to high 13 second car by 7 cars.

The CRX is technically mine. My name is on the title not his, we just built it together and it is kept at his house cuz I dont have a garage to keep it in. And as for me beating that econobox in my mustang it wouldnt be a problem... Srt-4s are undoubtedly fast cars, but my stang is somewhat modified and spraying a 100 shot....

You talk about the ratio between fast crx's to slow crx's, atleast the CRX was made to be atleast somewhat sporty. The neon was just built to shuffle kids to soccer practice and get groceries. Then theres the fact that I built that crx for less than half the price of an SRT-4....

And I'm glad your penis is big enough that you don't need a V-8, it's unfortunate however that it's not big enough to fill a thimble....

The SRT-4 is a performance car anyway you look at it. A lot of the haters keep calling it a "neon" but there is nothing neon about it!
Okay fine, the mustang is a "sports car" fine granted. but to say a SRT is a Neon is to say the Mitsubishi Evo is just a lancer, or the BMW M3 is nothing more then just a 325ci, or the McLaren SLR is just another SL600.
I see your point and I cant argue against reason but the gap between an SRT-4 and a regular neon is the biggest, widest, wrap around the planet gap in all of automotive history. its not like the Mustang GT and a SVT or a regular C6 and Z06. the SRT wassnt even built by dodge, the car is manufactured by PVO under solicitation of DiamlerChrysler, its an outsourced vehicle loosly built to ressemble the Neon in order to avoid licensing another badge.

what gets to me is how people are such haters. Can you imagine if I got mad at every car that was faster them me? dude I woulda had a massive heart attack by now from all the stressing!

Yea for the money they are a very fast car with loads of potential. Heck before I bought my new mustang a month ago I considered buying an SRT-4. But there are just too many other things to consider. I mean to me there is nothing attractive about the SRT-4, sure the body was changed a little bit, but its still a little bit too grocery-getterish. I mean let's say you're drivin around town checkin' out the hotties and you give a nice rev in your v-8 muscle car. Most people are gonna look at your car and think that its a sweet ride. But if you do the same thing in an SRT-4, only the car-smart up-to-date people are gonna know that you have a nice car. So personally, the SRT-4 would have to have something else very special about it for me to want to buy one, because I just can't get over the fact that it was born as a grocery getter (somewhat), looks like a grocery getter, and to most people who don't know better, is a grocery getter.

I'm with musashi on this. It seems like everyone I know with a V8 belives they are the shit. Even though I've seen more races of mustangs getting there ass handed to them than the other way around. (ie. GTvs 94 teg, Gtvs 300zx n/a etc.) Just because a smaller econo car is manufactured into a sports car version that could walk over most stangs doesnt mean you should hate them. In fact I'd be a little embarassed if I had my big v8 getting blown away by what you call an econo box. Just an observation.

Srt-4s can walk over most stangs huh? Year for year Mustang tops the dodge neon... You tellin me an 05 SRT-4 can beat an 05 Mustang GT? I'm not saying Mustangs are the fastest cars in the world, but for my preference to be pointed towards a Mustang over a Dodge Neon it wouldn't have to be. And just because you have seen one car beat a certain car, doesnt mean that scenario will always play out. For a 94 integra to beat a GT it would have to be pretty heavily modified. You go ahead and do every possible modification you can do to a 4 cyl integra and then do every possible mod you can do to a v-8 mustang and see what comes out on top.....

yes it would suck to blow 28 grand on a 2004 Mustang GT and get walked by a 21K sportcompact. In fact, thats the reason I love the SRT-4 and the Cobalt SS so much.

but at the same time I never considered the "hotness" factor. I guess its cause Im married and my girl is into cars as much as me.

im with u musashi, if the srt-4 was a lot faster than the GT, I would have bought one. But it's not as much faster as people think. The difference between a mediocre driver and a good driver will make the difference in the race between the two. If the SRT-4 was a lot faster than the GT, I would have been a lot more prone to buying it. And for the record an 04 GT would run u closer to 20-23 grand. And yes the ladies do love seeing a guy in a sports car, atleast as far as experience has shown me.

I am on my second Mustang now, a 1985 Mustang GT, and I love it to death but at teh same time I love the SRT-4, it's fast bottom line. I love fast cars(not really a Honda fan at all) but I love Nissans and DSMs and everythign between them. I just love fast cars, whatever it may be. See it form this point, the SRT was just used ot get all the extra neon bodies out and sold, and they made money off the idea, like Chrysler used to do with the omni and Charger and all teh fun turbo cars they used to make. And about seeing all the movies of "econoboxes" beating Mustangs. Mustang drivers don't usually go around with video tapes...We don't have anythign to prove, we get respect, it's teh import guys that gotta go out and feel like they need to prove themselves. Yea if the SRT had AWD i would have to set my horse free so to speak and get me one. And if you are talking about quartermile times my current mustang will probably run mid-high 12s with a spray. Haven't had time to take it to the track tho, it rains a lot here and I've only had it for about a month and a half or so. Just has exhaust intake and n20. Probably gonna get headers, a bigger throttle body and a plenum soon tho.

Agreed 98mustangGT, we are having just a car vs car debate. Many people with imports carry cameras around to show that v8's are often overrated. Many of these people with cameras are sick of listening to peole rave about mustang and camaros, etc. They do have something to prove and that is that contrary to popular beief (for many people with a basic understanding of cars) , many imports can take on a mustang or camaro and do it without dropping substational amounts of $$$ (not saying some imports aren't expensive).

Ummm, I dunno what dyno you guys used but there is no way a Mustang couldn't hit 200 rwhp on a dyno, I just refuse to belive it...lets take a 2000 model Gt, with a 5 speed, 260 o the fly...no way that over 60 hp will get lost enroute to the wheels...? If anyone can explain the percentage of parasitic loss that'd be great. not saying the SRT couldn't hit 220, just wanna knwo what teh hell the Mustang couldn't pull 200 for.

If the SRT-4 was AWD or RWD, then that would be a strong contender for my money, but its not. Still, great performance for the money

If I had the choice of having the srt built AWD or RWD I think I would choose neither........I have grown to love FWD cars even if I really cant get traction in my first two gears.....but if they made a AWD version or RWD version it would have been interesting....

K for starters my GT dynoed 236 rwhp when I first got it. So the thing about not being able to make 200 rwhp is total crap. Maybe the people at your brother's work or whatever accidentally got a v-6 mustang. And if you are trying to prove that the SRT-4 is the better car to buy by the fact that more people rent neon's than v-6 mustangs, you might want to think of more convincing arguments. haha yeah, the last bodies GT's dynos around 220-230whp stock. the current SRT 4's dynos 230whp stock. close call.

actually the next generation SRT-4 is AWD. but Dodge really messed this one up. they made it into a nasty looking hatch back with a flat pig-nosed front. It comes as an AWD 2.4 or a 2.0 diesel option. Its called the Callibur and will be the next SRT-4 in 07 I believe.

But WHP doesnt matter if the car is a boat... a FWD vehicle with 220whp and weighs nearly 3000lbs got beat by a car with probably just as much or more WHP and weighs 1000lbs less.

its no magical tranny cbfryman, its called being very very underated. same with the cobalt SS, its rated at 205hp but it puts dwon 220whp.

it was probrably a auto. i saw a auto gt with exhaust, intake and a chip dynoing low 230whp

all years SRT-4 made around 220-230 whp. Sport compact magazine was the fist to dyno them and they hit 230 at the wheels. the 225 hp was an underatuing by dodge and they never even said it was at the wheels. so everyone asumed it was at the cranck. yes, same thing with the Cobalt SS

These threads crack me up. I don't know what kind of dyno it was but I remember that the SRT-4 put down more power to the wheels than the Mustang by a good amount. Anyways it's funny to me that you can rip an SRT-4 without reservation but when I bring up less than stellar numbers about the Mustang GT you go ballistic.
