Help with tires and rims in general

I'm thinking about purchasing new rims for my 2000 VW Passat. I currently have 15 inch stock VW rims (Max tire size 195/60/15). I want to upgrade my rims in order to achieve a sportier look for my car. If I get larger rims (16-17 inches), what all would I have to do to adjust my Odometer, Speedometer, etc? Any help would be great.

If done correctly, your speedo won't be affected.

if you go to www.tyretown.com and look under tyre info on the home page, you'll find a mathematical formula to work out the current height of you tyres, then you can also work out what size you will need to maintain your correct gearing for you speedometer.
General rule is one up on down 195/60/15 = 205/50/16 = 215/40/17 or 205/45/17 depending on your rim width.
Check out the address above, i'm sure you'll be wiser for it.

or http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html will do all that math for you

for your passat if you want 16's then get 205/50/16's and if you want 17's get 225/40/17's or 205/45/17's
