what's up everyone first time posting
i have a 1988 s10 blazer 2.8l i found an extension cord going to my block while i was replacing camshaft bearings and main bearings i believe it's to heat the antifreeze, but the real question is how does it work, can i leave it plugged in all night if its cold and i want it to be warm in the morn. or is there a time limit?

Welcome to AF on your first post.
You have just found a block heater.
No timmers on them. They work all of the time when plugged in.
Give it a try on a cold night. Plug it in at night before and go out the next moring and see if everthing is nice and warm.
If you have instant heat from the heater bingo it is working.

I've never seen any give you instant heat out of the heater, but they sure help vehicles start in cold tempurtures.
When I was in Winnipeg in Febuary that was the only way that I could start my Diesel car some cold days

Your the engineer, so you tell us :grinyes:
I would imagine that you can get 1 from parts stores there, and you could probably use 1 for the ski slopes but the manufactors don't consider it as nessary.
They aren't even factory installed in all cars for Canada. I don't have 1 on my Blazer, and I don't know about my motorhome which came from a cold climate.
And merry christmas to you as well.
I'll be bumping the christmas greating thread today

Answer:
I don't need one. Too warm where I live. Today will be in the high 60's to low 70's with sunshine. Might have to jump in the pool...
Have a good one, all...

That does it, I just stole Santa's sleigh and I'm on my way to pick up all the cold weather members of AF. :evillol:
Then we're all going to fly over toy your place, and you'll have to sit back and watch as we all have fun in your pool

Bring it on. I'll have the grill ready and the beer, too...
Seriously, I hope all you posters out there have a great one, whatever it is you get into this holiday season and thanks for your help on my S-dime over the past year, especially on my windshield wiper issue. Who would have thought that hairline cracks in solder joints at the connector would have been the cause?? Since I re-soldered them, the wipers haven't missed a beat!!
