i used to own a honda prelude which is actually a fairly rare car compared to its brothers and sisters, and even that forum, on this site, got like 10+ new posts every hour, if i need advice about my tundra I might as well send UPS ground mail to china and then wait for a reply. I know more people out there have Tundras. What's the fucking deal?

I hear ya there. it seems lately you and I are the only two people that check this slow forum often, or at least post something.
do you know of any other tundra forums besides this one, maybe a 4x4 one with a tundra section or something. I'm sure if there is one it gets more hits.
my other car is a supra and i visit supraforums 2-3 times a day and there is almost never a thread without a reply or 10 within a day.
but on the other hand, most people that own tundras just buy it an drive it. they dont do any work on, or mod them nearly as much as almost any type of car.
one thing that really gets me going is that there isnt much made for the tundra. I'm not sure what sales rank tundra is compared to other trucks, but I know i see alot of them. the shitty thing is fleetfarm, farm and fleet, and lots of auto or farm stores dont have anything for them at all.... well maybe spark plugs but thats it.
I saw a cool double tube rollbar for an f150 for sale in a guys yard near my house and it kinda got me thinking wow I have never ever ever seen a tundra with a rollbar. wonder why cuz i have seen older toyotas with them. come to think of it never seen a newer taco with one either. I searched for quite a while and could not find a single rollbar for a tundra.
maybe they dont roll so you dont ever need one, or maybe there is no market, I dunno but there are lots of other accessories that just arent around for our trucks so its not just forums wise, its parts too. maybe someday the rest of america will take notice to the toyota and get this kinda stuff rollin. and someday they will open thier eyes and see that more of a toyota is made in the usa than almost every other domestic here.

yeah it seems like most of the American truck driving popularion are very anti-import and although I am an 18 year old, it seems like 90% of Tundra drivers are just older people looking for a reliable good looking truck that gets from point A to B without being fancy or even having offroad capabilities. And very rarely would someone in that category modify their vehicles. It's sad but true, another factor is probably because Tundra's have literally only been out for 6 years, but I agree, I see tons of them on the road. Even though I think my truck is worth every penny I paid for it, most people see it and think, well I could get that same truck from ford, gm, or dodge for half the price...

half the price??? price wasnt really a factor when i bought my 05 tundra, but I did look at ford f150's and chevy's they were all a lot pricier. they did have more bells and whistles, but to me thats just that much more shit to fix especially when they arent even as relaible overall. the only time they would be half the price is when they are used and have a fair amount of miles. so yah you could get the same truck for half the price, but then two or three years down the road and you want a newer one and you lose your ass on it because it doesnt hold any value when the tundra woulda depreciated a heck of a lot less. one other good thing about my truck is yes it is a little bit smaller than most full size trucks. it sure is nice when you are shopping and have to park the damn thing in a space meant for a geo metro. I dont want to think about how hard it would be some times and how many fender benders i woulda had if my truck was a couple inches wider or longer.
what year is ur truck? access, double or std?
what are ur likes and dislikes about the truck?

Yeah, it is pretty quiet around here, sucks really. I don't know why there isn't more activity. I ended up going over to tundrasolutions.com, much more active site. Its free to browse the forum, but there is also a bunch of tech docs & stuff you can get if you pay an annual fee... well worth the $12 imho, it has saved me over $200 on an alarm... turns out, a tundra with keyless entry has most of the alarm built in, just need a glass break sensor and a status monitor, both of which cost about $45 together, instead of the $250 toyota wants for the kit... which has those two parts plus directions and a couple stickers. So, in other words... check out tundrasolutions.

Tundrasolutions is free to register, you can browse & post all you want, you just can't get to the downloads, like tech docs.

dont some of the first paying people that download something post it and share it? or do the mods keep them from doing that by deleting/modifying thier posts.

lately some of the mods on supraforums have been cought doing shady and wrong things like deleting peoples posts as well as changing bad feedback from selling stuff into good feedback, lying about it when cought and getting other crooked mods to help cover it up.
but if you think about it, not much about life on earth isnt this way. look at how much our govt covers up, lies about and forces us into if we wish to or not.
another example is my truck, made purchase order, price of truck was 25,400 before taxes, before 3,500 trade in and 1,200 rebate.
I added a couple features after that price like paint protection, remote start, and autodimming compass mirror.
we had it all on paper, I asked for a copy they said they couldnt give one, wouldnt say why. I came back the next day to pick up the truck for delivery. I had pre-aranged to pick the truck up at noon. I was there at 5min to. I had my salesman paged 3times and he didnt show up till about 12:40 he said he was busy with a customer. wtf am I.... I had an apt. ok no biggie, went over the paperwork, they had new paperwork with taxes and license and all that crap on, didnt have what we filled out the day before. they coaxed me into thinking all was well and correct so i didnt keep asking to see the old paperwork side by side with the new. I was kinda hard up on cash so I asked them to take the mirror off the bill. they said no prob, it wasnt installed yet anyways. the found how much I was going to pay for it and took it off the total price before taxes. paperwork was done. truck was still in the shop being paint protected. shop didnt have it done till 3pm, and I had apt to pick up at noon wtf. my salesman brought it around and I looked it over, there was dust on the fender flares, the tailgate jams, and the door jams. I was like how did they wash this and paint protect it if there is dust on it. salesman took it back to them and said get the spots you missed. ok I waited another 20 min. salesman brought it back again and I dont think they even touched it. everything was still dusty. salesman brought the truck back to the shop, I went and got the sales manager and said hey wtf this is bs they arent doing what I asked and i paid like $450 for this crap. then the shop guys started arguing with me saying it doesnt need to be done those places because it wont rust there. whatever, doorjams are known to rust especially on toyotas. look at the truck i traded in I said. thats besides the point I asked you to do it now do it. then the fucking manager starting arguing with me. he took a towel and wiped the dust off and said there its clean. good enough. what an asshole... well by now its like 4pm to pick up a damn truck. then they sent me to the loan guy, took me like 10 min with him, did all the loan paperwork and was out fast. I didnt really pay much attention to the paperwork i was angry and wanted to leave. they didnt have the remote starter in stock and had to come back at a later date. about a month later I called and said hey I thought you were gonna call me when it was in..... no its not it yet I'll let you know. another month goes by, no calls, and my truck starts acting up. i crank the key and it dont start it just cranks for like 15 seconds till it finally does start. I called again and said I dont want the remote starter anymore cuz if this happens more and becomes a problem that might mess up them covering the warrantee. they didnt have it in stock yet anyways, and i asked for my refund. they said they would send a check out this week. month went by, no check. called again and they said oh sorry i dont know what happened I'll make sure check gets out this week for sure. month later, still no check im getting pissed. I called his manager and the lady that is in charge of writing the checks. neither have anything in the system about it or heard of it either. I told the manager find out and send me a damn check. month later again, no check still. I called talked to the head manager of the whole damn dealer, he said there is no reason for that... I'll make sure you get your check. in the meantime I for somereason didnt have the price of the starter on any paperwork at all. it was included in the price of the truck. I asked them how much it was. he said he would find out and let me know asap. 8 days later i called again, I recieved a check for $200. I remember it being over $300, salesman recalls that, and my mom that was with at time of pruchase remembers that too. not exact price but said it was 300 something. the head manager that got the check cut was conviently on vacation. he told me he would call me when he found out the price and when he mailed out the check. whole place is liars!!! I talked to a different regular manager and he said he didnt know where he got the price from, neither does the salesman i bought it from and cant do anything till he gets back. well he is supposed to be back from vacation on monday, so I cant wait to lay into that fucker. while looking for the price on my paperwork I also notice they only gave me 2500 for my truck, ripped me off a grand as well as jacked the price of the truck up. after taxes trade in, everything it was 30,800 something. it shoulda been like 24k or something. now i see why they wouldnt let me see the other paperwork or get a copy of it, and it somehow dissapeared so they cant show it to me anymore anyways.
all i know is dont ever ever ever buy a truck from wilde toyota in milwaukee wisconsin. they all lie and have the worst costomer service i have gotten anyplace anywhere in my life. this was the first new vehicle i ever bought and probably will be the last due to the hassle. I am used to buying directly from the owner and seeing a car asking the lowest price, writing the check, done deal. thats another thing thats wrong with america. why is it such a hassle to buy a car. you can go to walmart and pay a sticker price done deal. you can buy a house after slight haggling, take out the loan and done deal. why is a fucking car so damn hard to buy from a dealer. and they wonder why they are right up there with lawyers as being most hated people on earth.
well my truck is totally paid off, I busted ass and paid off the loan last week and will be really glad when its over cuz the truck will last me a long time and I wont have to worry about dealing with that shit again for a long time either.
have any of you guys had similar exp?
sorry to ramble on and get way off topic, but I was kinda taking this thread as a what pisses you off instead of just this forum.
anywho.. if you made it through my long story, thanks for your interest and I'll keep ya posted on the outcome.

As far as I know, nobody does that... I'm pretty sure its against the rules, but haven't read them that closely. My point was, its a good forum and has lots of good information, whether or not you pay. Its only $12 for the first year, well worth it for me. They say they're not out to make an profit, just enough to maintain the equipment. Hell, even the $100 lifetime subscription is worth it, it has saved me twice that much to install an alarm, not to mention the insurance savings.
That experience really sucks, sounds like you had a shady dealer. I'd call Toyota (1-800-331-4331) and tell them all about your experience. What you had to deal with was total bs. I had a similar, but much less severe, experience. When I bought my first truck, they slipped in a window engraving security feature without telling me, I think it tacked on like $100 or something. I wasn't too happy about it, but I wanted to get out of there. The experience with buying my trundra was great, very smooth, nothing slipped in. In fact, they told me they weren't sure if my truck had keyless entry, but if I found out it did, they'd give me the remotes for free. So I went to a service desk and asked them to look it up... the lady there was being a real bitch, and she told me it didn't. So, when I called toyota (at the 800 number above) about the recall, I asked if they could tell me if my truck had keyless. They told me that it does, so I emailed the dealer, they said come on down and they'd take care of it... and they did, gave me 2 remotes for free, no hassle at all. And I noticed that lady that told me it didn't wasn't there... someone else's name was on her desk too... They pretty much bent over backwards to keep me happy. I think most toyota dealers pride themselves on their customer service... probably toyota's doing...
I don't know why buying a car is such a pain... I was saying the same thing when I bought my tundra back in april... seems to me that I should be able to fill out all my info on one form and that'd take care of everything, instead of filling out the same thing 7 or 8 times.

damn dude that toyta dealership you went to sucks, I bought my used 2003 SR5 Access about a month ago from a Toyota Dealership and besides the hours spent waiting to fill out all the paperwork the experience was great and I even got the main sales manager to swap out a small broken part on the one I was buying with a like-new one from another used tundra they had on the lot, no complaints at all, If I was you I would definatly call Toyota personally and explain your shitty experience, maybe they will even give you some money back.

Out of curiousity, is that the only dealer near you? I'm just wondering if they're that way b/c you pretty much have no other choice when it comes to toyota. I can think of at least 6 toyota dealers within 40 minutes of me, so maybe that's why they're so nice around here...

i did contact toyota twice, once to complain which they said there wasnt anything they could do and I had to deal with the dealer directly. the other time was because I wanted a specific truck... a blue double or access cab 4x4 with a bench seat in front and back. multiple dealers said I wouldnt find one with a bench in front. then I happened to see it on a lot while on a small vacation. I ended up buying the truck. it was a access cab with bench seat in front and blue 4x4. the truck i have now in my avatar.
before i bought the truck i asked multiple dealers as well as toyota why I couldnt get a double cab with the bench especially when it shows pics of one right in the darn 05 tundra book. check it out if you have one handy. finally one of the 4 dealers I asked finally got me a non bs answer and said it was only offered in select states as they are all the makes and options are presceduled before made and only offered per thier demographic study or some bs. toyota has done absolutely no bending over backwords for me. I asked if I could get one then because they are made at the same plant anyways, and toyota said no. only way is to fly to a dealer that has it and drive it up from there or have it shipped from there myself. thats pretty gay if you ask me. now that i have owned the truck, thats one of my only gripes about it is not enough room especially in the backseat. the seats are too thick and take up too much room that could be used for cargo or a person. who needs a good riding seat if you have no room to sit on them in the first place. I was temped to have a custom shop make me some custom seats like the old ones in the chevy s10's or something only sitting in the middle facing out instead.
as far as the keyless entry thing, when i was asking about the truck they charged me extra for that too and as soon as i went to pick it up I looked at the window sticker and it was on there so i made the extra price of it off. this dealer will try and screw you anyway you can.
yesterday I had my first oil change and doorsill protectors put on at bergstrom toyota in oshkosh WI which is close to me, I told them about my crappy experience and they said it was common... a couple people that live in milwaukee that bought their vehicles at the dealer I did regularly drive the hour and a half drive to this dealer just because thier service is sooo crappy. I kinda wonder if that guy is pulling my leg, but so far even if he was lying, it didnt really affect me and they gave me wonderful service while I was there. they helped me out with some parts for my supra as well as let me look at some tundras with nerf bars and try them out before spending cash on something i didnt know if i wanted or not. they did a good job installing the protectors and even let me in the shop to talk to the guy working on my truck and ask him about my new tires and other maintainance questions. they were very helpful, cureous and daudle like the other place did/has been.
$24 or something for an oilchange and a carwash isnt too bad either. first time anybody besides myself has changed oil in any car I ever owned besides my grandpa when he showed me on my first car.
If i ever do decide to trade this truck in or buy a new one I will definitely buy from this dealer tho... even if they dont come down in price at first like the other dealer cuz i prolly ended up paying more in the end there than I would have here if I coulda got it in oshkosh that is.
well gotta go eat some food and open some presents.
merry christmas everybody and have a good night!

Your experience at the oshkosh dealer sounds more like my experience with beechmont toyota here. They've pretty much always been as helpful as they can. The other dealer I bought my first truck from (kerry toyota), I don't think was as good. It takes an extra 20 minutes to drive to beechmont, but except for buying little parts, its worth the extra 20 mins. If I have to pay for it, I do all my maintenence myself, unless its a big job and I don't have the tools & equipment required to do it in the limited amount of time I have.
Hopefully your next experience will be better... if you ever get a comment card from that first dealer, make sure you fill it out.
oh yeah... here's the page I got that phone number from:
http://www.toyota.com/about/contact/index.html
It says "If you would like to discuss your experience or share your comments, please call us. Toyota's Customer Experience Center representatives are happy to assist you." So if they just say its between you and the dealer, ask for their supervisor.
