Made in Mexico?

My Escort was built in Wayne, Michigan but I recently learned that they built them in Mexico as well. It's easy to tell. Look at your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) in the lower left of your windshield. If the first number is '1' then it's made in the USA. If the first number is '3' then it was made in Mexico.

Thats interesting, where did you find that out about the VIN?

In a manual somewhere. Probably a big, fat Chilton's manual. Not in my Haynes manual. You can tell where the car was built, year, body style, engine size and more from the VIN. That's why it's so long. A number '2' at the beginning is a Canadian-built car.

Don't know why but I've heard the Focus Hatchback is made in Mexico. Not the sedan or wagon. :eek7:
