I've got an 96 intrepid and a few day ago my oil light came on and I checked my level. It was a littlle low and I added some. Since then the oil light flickers on and off but not untill it reaches running temp. Is it a short or is my engine about to seize dut to sludge build up or could it be something else?

Hi:
Curious to know if you changed the "wire" and the problem of "flickering Oil pressure" light went away.... I have a similar problem...
thanks

I too was having this same problems with my 00' Intrepid. It is currently at the dealership having this problem looked at. They tell me I need a new Oil Sending Unit. Lucky for me I have the extended warranty, and it is covered under that. We'll have to see if this fixes the problem. Might have to look into the sensor wire.

The sensor is about $15.00. You will lose about two onces of oil when removing the sensor. I've seen them flickering the warning lamp when a mechanical gauge shows 25 PSIG at hot idle.

2000 Intrepid...changed the sensor and wire...light still flickered when engine reached operating temp...switched to thicker oil...no more light.

The sensor is about $15.00.
Can you give me the proximity of the sending unit on an '01 2.7?

NO: 08-36-99
SUBJECT: Engine Oil Pressure Light Flicker
DATE: Oct. 15, 1999
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves adding a terminal/wire/vent to the oil pressure switch connector.
NOTE: THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH A 2.7L ENGINE.
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
With a hot engine the oil pressure light may be on or flicker on at idle.
DIAGNOSIS:
Verify engine oil pressure as described on page 9-21 of the 1999 Concorde/Intrepid/LHS/300M service manual (Publication No. 81-270-9140). If engine oil pressure is within specification perform the Repair Procedure.
PARTS REQUIRED:
Qty Part No. Description
1 05017800AA Wire Terminal/Vent
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
Raise vehicle on a suitable hoist.
Remove engine oil pressure switch connector from switch.
Remove sealing dart from the empty cavity at the rear of the connector.
Pull terminal locking ring outward from front (switch) side of connector to gain access to terminal locking tabs.
Install wire terminal/vent, p/n 05017800AA, in place of the removed sealing dart. Slide locking ring back into place.
Attach the connector back on the oil pressure switch.
Spot tape the wire/vent to follow the harness towards the top of the engine compartment.

yeah, i'm a tech at a chrysler dealer, that service bulliten is no good, the reason that the light is fliskering at an idle (let me guess after a long drive, at a stop light while in gear), disconnect the oil sending unit connector, almost gauranteed that the connector is full of oil (you may have noticed a leak in your drive way), the oil is from the sending unit leaking through the connector, replace the sending unit and you will be fine

you don't have to buy the vent for the connector or a new pressure sender. all you have to do is remove the white plug that is in the third hole of the connector and that will fix your problem. i own a 2001 intrepid with the same problem and this is what i did and i haven;t had a problem since.

that's true. what happens is when the oil pressure sensor leaks it plugs the vent for the sensor and wire.

Have given my Intrepid an oil change/filter and changed the oil sending unit and the light in my vehicle still fickers when at operating temp as you describe.. The wiring connector as I saw it was oily, should I clean it if so with what? what to do?.. Is it feasible to replace the wiring, and if so where can I purchase it?
