1992 C1500 5.7l

Hey! I recently got a 92 Silverado with a 5.7L 350 TBI w/5sp. It is a reg. cab/stepside bed. I was just wondering what modifications I could do to get more gas mileage and performance out of it. I was thinking Flex-a-lite fans, a K&N or AIRAID intake, possibly a holley throttle body or maybe even a multi-point fuel injection if its that much better, and Gibson headers and cat-back system..Does anyone have any other ideas? Does the '92 have any kind of OBD tuner available? I was thinking about the tornado.. but I honestly don't believe in that.. I was also wondering if anyone has tried the new e3 sparkplugs that "increase efficency" by creating a spark that fires outward... I'm also up for any other ideas.. it seems theres too much to think about.. Thanks for any ideas!

If you are wanting to go to a different fan I would definately go with an electric fan. You will free up some lost power, you should get slightly better gas mileage, and your engine will most likely warm up faster. As for a tornado. I have never heard anyone talk good about them, outside of their advertisements. I personally wouldn't purchase one just off of their commercials. For a 92 you basically just buy a new chip.

The best way to from experience is get either a K&N drop in air filter (not their intake) or an AirRaid intake. K&N's intake is too expensive IMO. Also an AirRaid throttle body spacer and some long tube headers with a free flowing exhaust will do you alot of good. Thats the way to go IMO

ok.. so airaid intake over the k&n.. Im guessing the heat shield doesnt really affect anything that much? and the throttle body spacers actually work? i think im also going to get a stage one jetchip.

Yup, the throttle body spacers actually work best on the TBI motors like what we have in our truck since the air and fuel is mixed in the same place. That Jet chip sounds good too. The heat shield helps a little but K&N is just overpriced. The AirRaid intake is very reasonable.

I do think the K&N looks nicer, but it wouldnt be possible to put on a throttle body spacer with that setup. Overall, the airaid intake and throttle body spacer together cost $60 more from where im getting it ($240 for the intake and $100 for the spacer). Would the airaid be the best spacer? I was also looking at the crane cams and helix.. they both claim +22 horsepower and +4 mpg, while the airaid doesnt say anything proven. I find that almost hard to believe.. have you had experience with them? thanks for your help..

You definatley wont get +22 hp but there will be some gain. TBI motors that are in our trucks are the best motors to use the spacers on and yes I would go with the AirRaid PowerRaid spacer.
