Liftgate Control Module a/k/a rear body control module

I suspect that the LGM (dealer calls it the rear body control module) in the 02 envoy slt has gone bad. The remotes don't work, nor does the rear wiper or rear defroster.

Here's my question. I know that if I replace the body control module, I have to have the dealer program the new one with the scan/tech tool, and then program the fobs.

If I just replace the rear module, can I get away without having the BCM reprogrammed at the dealer, and just do the fob re-programming myself (using the procedure I see on this board)?

This problem is a known one. Even the dealer said he's replaced several of these modules in the past year. Surely someone on this board has had this done and can give me some pointers!

I'm having the same issue with my envoy. Did you ever get an answer for your question?
Searching the web I found the following info about replacing the LGM: "...Installation was simple, just pop off the trim on the inside of the liftgate and swap out the LGM. Only one catch: once you switch the modules the new one will look for a new code until you get it reprogrammed......meaning you'll have a dead battery in the morning..."
I got to the point where it seems that no matter how much search I do, I'll still have to pay a dealer to help me out in some point.
