I love my 01, heated leather seats are so comfortable. I have worked in the Automotive field for almost 20 years. The excessive play in the drivetrain which causes a clunk drives me nuts. And I think the brake pedal has way too much travel before the brakes really feel like they are stopping the truck.

Bought iine with 45K on it when it was 2 years old. At 70K a head gasket cracked filling the engine with water. That was a $550 repair bill. 20K later the engine locked up in the middle of an intersection. The cause was the water from the head gaskets caused some premature bearing failure and 4 main bearings spun. The 4wd swtich went out, $60 to replace it. The 3rd brake light leaked filling the cab with water and the windshield has an air leak that I hate. Other than that its fine. It hauls ass so I like it.

I would agree with you in the 80's but I think US cars have improved. GM is the largest car manufacturer in the world followed by Toyota. Ford has been the #1 selling truck for gods knows how many years. If they are all junk then why are so many being bought. Also I have worked on alot of Izusu Troopers and I would never buy on of those.

The abs thing was going on sometime last summer, took it in the dealer for them to fix it and they said it had no codes. But it went away for like 2 or 3 months. Well couple weeks ago it would happen everytime i was braking. I so busy i couldn't make it straight to the dealer and so i waited like 2 weeks and it kept getting worst. Almost hit a car because the abs brakes would kick on for no reason at slow speed. Anyhow it has codes now and they fix it,thankfully it's still under warranty.

Next thing the steering wheel, something is up with it. Last summer when i took it they replace some stuff on it because it was making a popping noise everytime you turn the wheel. It went away, but maybe 2 month after driving it a scraping noise comes from the steering wheel everytime i turn it. So when i took it in the for ABS thing for the 2nd time ,they replace the steering wheel. Noise went away, something about a bearing going out.

Piston slap, i use to be worry about this , however i feel good thats it's going be ok with it.

I love my chevy truck, not alot of problem , but you can tell they have alot of design flaws they need to work on. I wouldn't recommened people buy a 99-02 models. Reading these forums seems like alot of people have problems with those years. Even me,even though their not as bad as some ,and i still have a warranty.

Would i buy chevy again ? NO , Would i buy GMC ? Hell yeah.

Only because the GMC has a better look then the chevy now. But i would buy a chevy again also , even though i list all those problems it could be alot worst..*knock on wood*

Although GMMerlin pointed out the obvious, I'll take it a step further. You say you wouldn't buy a chevy again, but IN YOUR VERY NEXT SENTENCE, you say you would. Which is it dude?!

Mine is a 2005 CCSB 5.3 4X4 w/towing pakage @ 16,200 miles.

PROS - Power, reliability, handling, brakes, size (both interior and exterior), looks, and after a weekend in Joshua Tree Nat'l Park, the sumbitch can flat crawl over some pretty good rocks and washes that some Jeeps were having trouble with. Wheelbase was a little long, but the only thing that ever drug was the step bars, and the torsion bars are stock.

CONS - Mileage (city), clunk in drivetrain, paint is really soft (scratches easily - haven't buffed it out yet to see how easy that will be), piston slap (very negligible thus far).

I love it. It could blow up on me tomorrow and I'd still be money ahead on any other rig. Buy your little Japanese SUV's, they still don't have chit on my Chevy for size, power, or capability.

All of the noises get on my nerves. Especially the piston slap. Doesn't seem to matter what year. Fuel pumps are a huge issue but so far so good on my current truck. I buy 3/4 ton trucks because I don't like the half ton brakes (or lack of), and the differentials and frames are much stronger.

My HD is still a very nice ride for me in spite of the noises, but my wife's '02 1500 Tahoe only stayed in our posession for 3 months. Three fuel pumps went out, front hub/bearing, and a lock actuator. Bye bye Tahoe. Too bad, it was an LT and very very nice when it was driveable. :frown:

decide witch grill, tail lights , side trim you want gmc and chevys are the same truck. ford claims too have out sold chevy for years. the claims are all true without gmc figured in. olds ,pont, caddy, buick dealers sell gmc trucks, the reason you don't buy a chevy at a buick dealership. these truck do seem to use up fuel pumps (fill the tank at 1\4 if you still have to change it. it will be cheaper than the transmission change in the ford) not a big fan of GMs welded on door hinges or the 40 acre field you need to turn a 4x4 around in. the piston slap i can live with, it started getting loud on cold days about 70,000 it now has 140,000 runs like new,no oil added at 5.000 mi oil change intervals. they are all machines with there idiosycrases. drove ford trucks for 20yrs. my opinion they have the best trucks now unless they eff it up like they did with the performance car market. ford & chyrsler are kicking there azz right now.

I would buy a chevy again if it was a great deal. But i like the way GMC trucks look these days. I know it's silly i'm talking about the look of same brand trucks and other people talking ford, toyata, and other stuff. But i always think about this way , my family always had luck with chevy, Anytime they got a ford nothing but problems. Anyhow anytime i buy a truck i'm going buy the 100'000 warranty anyways, If it nothing breaks down within 100'000 miles ,great i got a freaky awesome truck. But if something does break down nothing will be coming out of my pocket until atleast 2-5 years(time it takes to get to 100'000 miles). Look i'm almost at 100,000 with no major problems. I would buy another GM truck. :)

PROS: Runs great. No real problems. Looks good. Does what I need it to do (that's the real definition of "quality"). Fun to drive. Dependable!!!

CONS: Stereo doesn't play mp3 format CD's (don't ask). That's about it.
:screwy: It's mostly a personal thing. You like it or you don't. There's some pretty decent trucks out there from other companies, but the bottom line is I like this one. I'd hate to think everyone would buy the same thing. That would make things boring and non-competative.

would definatly buy chevy again, i've had very few problems. U-Joints go out every 30k or so. Rear brakes went out about 60k, front windsheild sounds like it has an airleak, and the mystery rattle from the front of the truck. other than those small things i love my truck and cant wait till i can afford to get another one
