What really makes a good racer?...

What do you guys think puts certain racers above others?
Why can one racer in car X run 14.5 but then another, better racer in the same car X can run 14 flat. What do good racers do differently?

shift times, traction in the first 60 ft. help a good deal, proper slipping of the clutch, proper shift points
thats about it... teh same cars are all different too, there are a few "factory freaks" taht put out more power than others for no reason whatsoever

Well it depends on how calm you are though to if your gripping the whell so tight you cant feel your hand the stress will throw you. You got to stay calm as possible.

Live your life a 1/4 mile at a time and you will be fine. Plus if you know how to double clutch that helps too. :loser:

Winning makes a good racer...so by definition, I am not a good racer.

it's all about knowing your car. knowing when your car is making it's best power and knowing when and how to land shifts to keep you in that power is key.
also the willingess to beat the total shit outta your car helps too. my friend says he can drive "better" than me, but in reality he's just more willing to beat on his car, he's always power shifting and shit.

Remember, Chuck Norris is not hung like a horse...horses are hung like Chuck Norris.

But remember Vin Diesel is the only man to ever defeat a brick wall in a game of tennis.
He wins sporting events, I am sure he can drive too

*Setting the car up better
*Skill in launching
*Quickness in shifting
*Appropriate timing of the shift
*Staying on throttle while shifting
*Weighing less ... a big ole fatty should run slower than a skinny dude :)

I like the "winning" explanation.
And I would like to also throw in consistency.
Track and weather conditions always influence ETs, as does the car's setup.

A good racer is anyone who has the drive to win and knows hows to do it.
Also FYI Chuck Norris doesn't have a chin under his beard, its another fist.

A good driver to me is more then just some goober that gets a .500 shift light, nails every shift, and runs great times. To me a great driver can know a car's at the limit handling. I've only seen one guy thus far that I consider a great driver, and I can almost assure most people that down a winding hill he'd beat probably beat most everyone on this board. He's also good at the track to boot, but his skills at high speeds are known by everyone that knows him. Then again my buddy Steve is a crazy sonofabitch, and his new bike will probably get him killed.

imma have to go with what rice(er) said plus the fact on knowing the limits of the car. if you can be consistant on the drag(rt, shifts, time), and control the car when it is at high speed on corners, then thats a pretty good racer to me, the best race woul do all of that plus win more than 40% of races.....
