Here is part 1 of the entries.

I thought a swift little wmv file with some swingin 60s mod remix music would set it off right.

I'm setting up a long post with comments from all the juges in order of the images on the web page. I am also setting up a shell so they can be displayed on a web site. I just got the last one in today so I also have to calculate. We have a number system like NASCAR so we can add'em up and see who wins.

So how many points do you loose for bad posts?
Can I add some sponsor stickers to my toon?
So who's gonna tech inspect each drawing and toon to see if they fit the Mistie template?

Here's Judge Patty's Critiques:

> Eric:--good fun-the exagerated wheels makes me laugh. Good body drawing
>
> Grantrl78 - 1:--Love the deco style--great sense of movement and
> cheekyness with the boxes.
>
> Charles:--Not afraid to rise to the challenge!--tough curves at a tough
> angle. Very inspired job. Read up on some 'how to' tutorials and start
> to draw your cars from boxes, this will show you how get more solid
> structure in your cars.
>
> Dean:--Wonderful brochure-like presentation! I love line drawings.
>That camber is such a eye
> grab at this angle, makes the tire look wrong even tho it is not. Neat
> handling of
> headlight bucket bumps--I have seen it in old advertising brochures nice updated use.
> Really like the presentation. But, the back window with the palm tree
> sticker is off and keeps grabbing my eye. Also consider sticking the
> dog's head out of the window a bit --he sorta looks like he just fits in
> the window shape at his ears and snout and creates a real flat spot. If
> you do watch out for tangents.
>
> Alix:--Mistie is a girl!! Love the eyes. This Mistie has great appeal
> and personality. Would like to see more of your stuff.
>
> Cano:--Very imaginitive and out there! Beautiful rendering-that's shiny
> clean chrome alright. It says bug but is confusing--need to silhouette
> better. Below the belt-line is good use of wonky angles but above (the
> roof and windows and carb parts) does not easily read--too crammed with
> information.
>What "I'm" missing in this shot is the bulge on the front fenders where the headlight buckets sit.

> Duffy:--A for effort. Keep trying. Draw, draw, draw---Start building
> your drawings in blocks, check the Trosley tutorials to help you to better
> understand structure.
>
> Asaenz:--Very representative of Misty and all that she is. Good solid
> feel to the drawing. Tangent happening with the palm tree and windshield,
> suggest moving > the tree to the right to clear the car.
> Good skills.
>
> Blip:--Cute cartoon-air cooled to air cooled! Impressive style and
> colouring. Makes me smile. Very nice dynamics in the drawing--love the
> fenders treatment.
>
> Zwofurti:--Beautiful illustration!
>
> Kustmace:--Strong pin striping. Strong design of car! Cool
> presentation-so much work. I thought your pencil drawing was great to.
>
> Honu - 1:--Too bad it's unfinished. Sort of an hommage to Lemorris
> cartoons. Love to see it finished!
>
> Grantrl78 - 2:--Knows their stuff. Beautiful. Love the treatment.
>
> Roboduck - 1:--FUN -very animated! Everything is there plus some. Love
> the rendering.
>
> Honu - 2:--Mistie in a Herbie situation! The lettering is overpowering.
> Need to set the stage more clearly--very crammed and difficult to read.
> Fun idea for a cartoon.
>
> Karmacae:--A really good try!
>You chose a tough angle for the rear end-easy to not get that back fender
>just right!
>Need to work on structure and planting the car on the ground. I like the
>cast shadow effect of the render on the hood. Need to check back to the
>model more if >you want the drawing this realistic.
>
> Mshkttck:--Need to resolve some spots--front fender to body and running
> board, decide how stylized you want it to be and fix the side windows
> accordingly
> because all this takes your eye away from what is a really nice drawing.
> Keep checking back to your reference model.
>
> Roboduck - 2:--Beautiful presentation!
>The angle and size of the rear tire throws off
> the whole drawing-need to fix the elipse and re-orient in fender. Front
> tire also needs to be tucked under the fender a bit. Definitely a shiny
> Mistie.

Hey wanna see what Judge Jeri said?

1. Asaenz:
comment:
Cool "Logo" feel! Ties right in to my specialty... TEE Designs! I Love the bold colors of MIstie popping off the black graphics in the background. Very clean. This design would sell well if put on the market.

2. Cano:
Comment:
I am always jealous when I see this kind of artwork! The exaggeration and movement are awesome! The details keep me looking at it again and again. The chrome is great and I love the candles in the headlights.

3. Kustomace
comment:
WOW! You went all out on this one! Again another design that screams to be mass produced! (that is a good thing in my world) the glossy paint over the matt background rocks. Great use of the elements!

4. Grantrl 1
comment:
Deco! Very cool! The monotone is great! I love it!

5. Roboduck - 2
comment:
A great use of exaggeration and movement! The chrome is awesome and the colors really pop off the background!

6. Grantrl 2
comment:
Just as great as the monotone entry! I could see this one hanging on my wall!

7. Blip
comment:
Gotta love it! Mistie looks as though she is blushing! The "old and new" theme even seems to extend to the style that both vehicles were drawn. MIstie has that very clean cartoon look while the corvair has a more detailed and modern feel.

8. Zwofurti:
comment:
Had to pick this one as one of my finalist! Very clean and it gravitates to my own 'conservative' style.

9. Roboduck -1
comment:
Wow! You swing both ways! Your other entry is wild and loose while this one is photo realistic! the contrast between the car and background rocks!

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ++++++++++++++++++++++++++
+++++++++++++++++++++++++

Other critiques you would like to give:

Eric:
Whoa! Mistie looks like she is ready for the wagon train! Original wheel design with the low profile tires. Great pencil sketch!

Charles:
Wow this is a hard angle to do without some great photo reference. But you have made a good start of it! (Personally, I can't draw a hubcap without a good photo to look at).

Dean:
Super composition. The close-up of the interior really adds to the design. Very clean

Alix:
Cool sketch! I like the use of the bold outline and the window lines.

Duffy:
What can I say? ... Interesting? The details and color over the flesh background.... oh yeah.... you drew Mistie... She looks cool too! a 'unique' blend of hand drawn art with computer tweaks.

Honu - 1:
Great start at a wonderful design! I hope you continue to finish it. It has that exaggeration style that I envy so much!

Honu - 2:
"David and Mistie sittin' in a tree...." Watch out though, I hear she has a big black boyfriend that likes to pond on anyone that tries to make the move on his mistie.

Karmen:
My favorite angle! I love ground shots. Pencil is a great medium!

Mshkttck:
Nice pencil. I bet it even looks better in person!

Congratulations to the da man Zwofurti.

It was fun. I don't think I would have ever drawn a cartoon if it were not for this comp. I never considered myself to have an imagination so I studied toons and esp. the Hot Wheels Fat Back toon cars. Mine was modeled after those. Thanks to Jeri for teaching me how to color in PS. Thanks to Lemorris for putting this on and for making the webpage and stuff. Thanks to all the artists and judges.

How did you like the lil bugs in the DHP logo? hee hee

Second, thank you Lemorris for putting together a great contest.

Third, thanks to everyone who entered. Those were all great drawings.

OK OK

Here's Trosley's:

1. Cano
comment: Whoa! This is it! Pushed as far as I think you should go and still respect the proportions of the car - very very very good! Go get 'em!

2. Roboduck 1
comment: Dig what you've done with the wheels and point of view - needs some kicked up stones and smoke to give us some feeling of movement.Cool!

3. Grantrl78-2
comment: Very good contemporary design. Looks good, feels good, it's got movement - do more!

4. Kustmace
comment: Yeah - Great overall presentation and originality - dig those wheels and stance.

5. Asaenz
comment: Nice overall design. Dig your chrome and head lights - cool window glass!

6. Dean
comment: Nice presentation and drawing...woulda' looked better with paint.

7. Blip
comment: Proportions are fooled with nicely, good details.....real nice feeling!

8. Zwofurti
comment: Very nice job, accurate with good detail work. Paint highlights would have made it looked waxed!

9. Eric
comment: I dig this one - nice proportions with attention to details. Check out photos of VW suspension at your local library...errr... I mean magazine stand.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ++++++++++++++++++++++++++
+++++++++++++++++++++++++

Other critiques you would like to give:

Charles: Although rough this is a very good interpretation of the VW - try working on stiffer material using different pens or pencils.

Alix: A real jazzy rendition...cool but I would have liked to have seen a little more time spent on the paint job.

Duffy: Quick, bold...it makes it's point with a wild style!

Honu - 1: Nice attitude - nice pencil line...I want to see this one inked and colored! Go magic fingers.

Karmacae: Great point of view, nice drawing. A full body shadow on the ground would have helped "put it there".

Mshkttck: Good drawing, nice use of lights and darks and point of view.

More soon

Mery Christmas and Happy Holidays!

Haha, awesome. Actually, it was still Christmas when I typed that... or an hour after christmas, I forget. Anyhoo, yeah that is a good idea, but how to make that into a fair contest, I don't know. First things first, deadline is Feb 14. Long time maybe it seems, but contest won't be up immediately.
