tires rubbing...

i got a 64 nova and my driver rear tire is rubbing the body, the passenger side has a good gap between the tire and the body, a lot more than the driver side, what causes this? is the frame crooked or the body sliding or something? any ideas?

not sure how this would happen, but the leaf could have been flattened out a bit. Also, if you have wider tires than origenally came on the car, they might not fit under the fender. seems like that would be on both sides though. I would see if you can check if you leaf is flat.

Sure that both tires are the same size, the wheels could be different offset. the axel could have slide on the leafs, or the leaf bushings could be worn out, alowwing the car the shift.

It's probably the rear end is not centered on the car. You have no idea how many GM cars I've worked on that have this same problem. I have a '67 Nova in the garage right now with the same problem. The car's rear suspension has never been apart (the car REALLY did belong to the proverbial "little ol' lady"). I also have a '63 Nova where the rear end is perfectly centered and it too has never been apart. But the cars i've owned/worked on with un-centered units far outnumber the centered ones. Get out your tape measure and your tools.

i actually took the tires off yesterday and checked it out, things seem to measure up fine, but i think i figured it out, i think it had body damage on the rear driver quarter panel and when it was repaired, it doesnt match the other side exactly, with very very close inspection, it looks as tho the other side curves out more, i beleive that is the problem at least, i swapped the two back tires to see if it is rubbing still or if those rubbing marks were from before the body work. thanks.
