i've been on the sites like how stuff works.com and looked high and low for an explination via yahoo and google but i havent found quite what i'm looking for. so here goes:
i understand how an auto transmission works, in detail infact. i know the 4 speed like i invented it myself but i cant figure out a 5 speed. i know ford makes a torqshift 5 speed truck transmission and i'm sure theres alot of others who have 5spd autos so how did they do it??? i know its probably a combination between the ring and planetary gears that i'm over looking but i havent quite gotten it down.
i'm in tech school so eventually i'll find my answers but the auto transmission course isnt til next fall semester and i was curious. does anyone have a site i could go to, that diagrams a 5 speed auto. or is someone willing to explain to me how each gearing is setup.
dont be afraid to get technical. if theres already a post explaining this i apologize for my ignorance, but i've been looking and this is the easiest way i know to get my questions answered. thanks in advance for all the help - adam

go here - http://www.zf-group.com/am/pc/pt/ampcpt07.phtml
Then click on the parts catalog for any of their 5 speed autos, it shows every part of their transmissions.
