95 start probs...

I have a 95 Monte and i am having startting problems. it wont turn over wont even click or nothing. but with the key on i can jump it on the starter and get it to run perfect.. i searched and read all the prior start problem posts and i have put in a new starter...checked fusible links ...taken off all the tloom and checked the wires...re did all the connections cleaned em up etc..the key is not dmaged nor is the chip.i t is a tilt steer and i am to the point where i think it may be the wires in the steering wheel

****so i need to know how the heck to get the steering column cover off...i have the air bag out and the sterring wheel off now what?

and what do i look for once i get in there????

any other suggestions to check for the start prob?

You don't need to take the steering wheel off to get at the ignition switch. It's located under the dash on the top of the steering column. There is a steel rod connecting it to the key cylinder.

ok well i looked at that switch and all the wires and connections look good but theres like 10 wires going up by the keys how do i get the column cover off to check them and what exactly should i look for??

ok so heres my progress i got to that ignition box and tested all the wires and there was a post with a yello wwire on it that had no volts until you turn the key over so i figured this was the starter wire so i ran a wire from this poost to the lil bolt on the starter and it fired right up...so do i just run my own new wire or where would the other one be bad?

As for your question about the other wires going up the steering column, those are for the brake/turn signal switch, the wiper switch, cruise control, radio buttons, key chip, and dimmer.

Running a separate wire to the starter is certainly an option, and I'm not aware that there's anything significant you'd be bypassing. I ususally try to first figure out where the link has been severed first, though, as there could be a fusible link that has been blown, or there was wire chafing that could compromise the other wires. Try using a volt meter and a probe and isolate where that wire has lost continuity. Good luck!
