Fuel Injectors...

I was at the Junk Yard today and first I tried to get Fuel Injectors off of a FORD EXPLODER but the guy wanted $200 for eight! Too much $. So, I then spied a White 91 XJ Cherokee Laredo 4.0 Auto. I figured I'll go and get the Fuel Injectors off this truck. It had 188k/mi.

I told them I'll give you $10 each but they wanted $80 for six, still high for used. I told them throw in the fuel rail, fuel regulator, assoc. nuts/bolts and the fuel pump resistor on the driver's side fender and I'll up the ante to $100. Deal.

Now, I have these extra Fuel Injectors lying around in case any of mine go bad or leak. Perhaps one or more of them might be bad but at least the rest will be good. Beats the Dealer prices anyday! lol

What do you think of buying used Fuel Injectors from the Junk Yard? Good or waste of money? Do they ever get tired and don't squirt well?

You must make sure you have the correct impedance (high or low) and correct flow rate if you are going to a junk yard to get injectors. You can't just grab any set of injectors because they look like they would fit.
Gas spoils fast and causes a hard varnish on any metal parts (injectors too). If you plan on using the injectors you will need to soak them and clean them first.

There is a pretty good article about fuel injector swaps in the TECH/SPECS section at www.southeasternxj.com that talks about changing the trouble prone ones like your 88 has for Ford injectors. It may help.

I'm sure the injectors will be ok since I got them off another 4.0 (it was a '91 mine's an '88). What do I soak them in?

What should I soak them with to clean?


Jeepme - Yes, I read that article for swapping Ford injectors for the Renix ones. That's why I tried to get the Ford ones first but they wanted too much money for them. The ones I got (even if some are bad) will still be cheaper than getting the new from the dealer and are a direct fit (came off of the same vehicle and engine).

I'm just keeping them until any of mine go bad. They'll save me a trip to the junk yard or dealer and some cash.
