tranny problem

I have a 1987 Jeep Wagoneer. The transmission will not shift out of 1st or 2nd gear (cant tell which) at normal operating speeds. If I punch the accelerator for an extended period, it will finally shift. It seems to "slide" into the next gear. Any idea what the problem could be? The Throttle Position Sensor tested ok. The TV linkage adjustment has no effect on it. The tranny fluid and filter are new and at correct levels.

Thanks.

have someone check the line pressure of your transmission, especially the governor pressure; might be a sticking governor.

After reading several other posts regarding this topic, I decided to go ahead and replace the throttle position sensor, even though it ohmed out ok. Low and behold the thing shifts perfectly now. Go figure.
