Need help from Russia

Hi to everybody who like talking about cars!
I’m from Russia. I’m interested in everything that is connected with automobile. I’m doing the comparative analysis of the automobile terms in Russian and English. Along with the terms there are the words and word combinations (so called conversational equivalents of the terms) used in speech of the people connected by the same profession or line of work. For example Russian drivers call the steering wheel – baranka (small wheat loaf in the form of a ring) ‘cause steering wheel resembles it in shape. Another example: the lower part of the bumper is called skirt.
I guess in English you also have such words or expressions which you use in conversational language talking about the cars. When communicating it’s impossible to use terms all the time. Read the list of the terms and may be some words will occur to you. You can give the examples apart from this list.
If it’s not difficult for you, share your ideas with me. I’ll be very grateful and appreciate your help.

Is the russian govt going to build a car and label their parts by nicknames?

Hey, I think it's awesome that someone is doing a report on the different terms used.

We call the distributor, just that, a distributor. While Europeans call it a "dizzy".

We have the hood and trunk, Europe has the bonnet and boot.

Wheelie bars on a Front Wheel Drive car, we call Traction Bars.

We call the spare tire a Donut, unless it's a full size spare.

I can't think of others off the top of my head right now, but I'll be adding more later.

I call my car my "whip"

I dunno, stick for a car that is manual? The glove compartment has lots of differnt names...Jocky Box is what I always say.
