-oh and just watched it. Pretty kickass you got to try one of the new evos. He was walking well away after you guys made it to the next gear.
Was it pretty much from 2nd to 3rd on the rolls? decent video

The highway rolls were from around 60 mph, starting in 3rd gear and ending somwhere near the top of 4th (for me anyway, he may have been in 5th). The first race on the vid went up passed 130 mph for both cars before we shut down. He was doing 135 and I was around 125-130. I did much better against him from the lower mph rolls though. The 3rd or 4th race was from a 40 mph roll in 2nd and it ended somewhere around 120 in 4th. That one he only got about 1 car on me, which was much better than the highway. All the runs ended up well over 100 mph, but it's really hard to tell in the vid. Like the last part of the vid when all you see is me going through a couple turns in the dark. I was doing that at about 90-95 mph and I took that left turn onto the highway at around 40 mph, but you'd never know just watching the vids.
That ECU flash really woke that car up and gave it a pretty good edge over mine. Very impressive for some basic tuning.

just saw the video. you did worse then i thought you did. he pulled on you pretty good. there was never a time where you stopped his pull. his rate of pull seems to be like 1 car every 2 second. but the races were too short. i know you guys hit 125mph or so but he pulled pretty hard in a 60 mph interval. he looked around 4-5 cars ahead to me. the way you were describing it, it sounded like it would be alot closer.

It looks like Rob (Evo guy) was just trying to prove a point, and would hit the brakes, as soon as he's 2-3 cars ahead - at least from the slow rollls.
Well, at least I'm glad you manned up, Aaron, much respect for that.

What's the difference between a Evo 8 and the one you raced? What type of performance gains does a reflash give to those cars? If I'm not mistaken, you beat one by over 3 car lengths even though he got a jump.

Damn I wish we had that kind of scene around here. A lot of old beat up civic hatchbacks around here.. every once and a while an evo, STI, 300zx, etc. But not a lot of them race, they just "cruise".. waste of a fast car.
Nice race and good vid.. I should videotape my races.. as soon as I get a car fast enough to race in.

The 06 Evo got a 10-20 hp boost over the previous cars, plus this one has another 40 whp more because of it's reflash. I'd say Rob's Evo IX has about 45-50 whp more than the Evo that I ran a couple weeks ago. That's the difference.

They are suppose to weigh about 2850-2950 pounds. But one of the guys on the SS forums just had his weighed at a track the other week and it came in at 2750 or so without him in it. I don't know the accuracy of the scale used though.

It's possible for the SS to only weigh 2750 as long as your tank is almost empty, take out spare, tools, floor mats, and other basica stuff. I beleive that. Nice vids.

Haha, thanks. That's one of the big reasons I put on the CAI. 8-10 whp is okay and all, but the noise is much cooler :grinyes:

The video came out well. Definately some good racing and I must admit that I am impressed by your cobalt. Based on what I saw when we raced, I would say it is completely believable that you pulled an evo 8. Either your car is a factory freak or you are secretely John Force because you kept up about as well as my friends stage 2 Srt-4 kept up with me. We will have to go again when you have more mods.

That's exatly what I was trying to say, thanks for clearing it up. It seems that stage one Srt-4's respond better to supporting mods than do stage two Srt-4's. I believe it has something to do with stage two pulling more timing. My friend and I had almost the exact same mods, the only difference was that I had stage one, he had stage two. My stage one was faster from a dig or roll.
This is getting off topic, I dont want to start an Srt4 war in here, Srt4's are incredible cars, especially considering the price.

If that's what he means then I don't understand why he's saying that, because there is no edit. We took off after we hit the lines on the other side of the stoplight, then we both missed second gear. After missing we both found 2nd and continued to run for another 40 mph or so before he shut down.
If he's talking about the last little clip after the stoplight run(which I think he might be) I wasn't racing. I had just told him that we should call it a night before we get caught and we didn't need to abuse the cars anymore, because the point had been made. So, I let him take off so we could get a nice fly-by of his exhaust without my S/C whine getting in the way.
Hope this clears up any confusion.

Thanks for the video guys. It was a good one. I'm impressed with how hard the Cobalt pulls. Seems to have much more balls than its Ion Redline cousin. It needs a higher redline though. That's the first thing I would try to change before getting a Kenny Bell. Another 1k RPM's with a nice blower and a free flowing exhaust would be nasty.
I've heard of a few stock Evo IX models trapping as high as 105mph and getting in the super low 13's, but nothing close to 12.7. The best slip I saw was a guy in an IX MR doing 12.9...then he admitted to running 100 octane. Off the showroom floor I don't think the peak numbers of the '05 VIII and the '06 IX are much different...hence the similair 1/4 mile times and trap speeds. The IX just seems to respond so damn well to mods though because of the variable timing intake cam and the new bigger turbo. It also delivers a more linear power curve based on what I've seen and the dyno charts guys have posted. I'm not one of those guys that will sell his modded Evo VIII just to get an IX, but it's gonna be fun when we see some aftermarket cams and some good standalone engine management. By the time the X comes out I'll be ready to pull the trigger. :grinyes:

Same here. Mine was an '04 with stage 2 and a 3" TBE. I put buslengths on my buddy's stage 1 with 2.5" exhuast though. With a new WGA he prolly could have done better, but it was a big difference. Thing about the SRT-4, at least in my experience and the other owners I know personally, is that it seems to get boost leaks frequently. I was constantly under the car tightening IC lines, behind the turbo, and messing with the throttle body. It makes a big difference too...especially on the top end under full boost.
