I need the 60k service on my 2002 1.6l accent...the timing belt needs to be changed should I change the water pump too....How about the auto trans oil??? Anything else while I'm in there. Also where can I get the gas lifters for the back hatch besides the dealer at 100 bucks each.

Hackizz,
Refer to your owners manual and you'll see the maintenance schedule that shows exactly what should be done at what mileage/months. As you know, the 60,000 mile service is important so spend the bucks and get everything done that needs to be done. You should have many more miles of trouble-free motoring after that. Good luck and have a Merry Christmas. :2cents: :smokin:

I would suggest based on experience that it is not a bad idea while you are in the belly of the beast to swap out the waterpump. It is not mandatory and you may never have a problem with the one you have. However, do NOT replace it with a rebuilt or another brand pump. Learned the hard way when new pump sprang a leak 20K later and wound up replacing pump and timing belt yet again. Replaced pump with a Hyundai pump. I would suggest you do the same based on my experience. The only non-Hyundai parts I use are K&N air and oil filters. They cost more but worth it. Also don't let them use another belt - use hyundai timing belt. I'm not a mechanic so you can go for it or not as you please. All the best.

The water pump is part of the drive train which is warranted for 10yr/100,000miles; and therefore replacing is Ok if you want to spend your own money!

Auto Tranny fluid every 12,000 miles - Manual not often - Timing belt - definitely - water pump (guy says warranteed for 100,000 but I had a linkage cable replaced under warranty - that took 4 days) FWIW Water pump is about $100 or so (your call). Oil and filter every 3,000 - air filter 15,000 or k&n about 30,000 - 40,000. Check brakes - 60K service shouldn't be more than say $400 tops. Also replace spark plugs and wires are another cheap but good investment IMHO. Take out Owners Manual and do what it says under the Severe Maintenance Schedule and you pretty much can't go wrong and if you do at least you have the solace of knowing it wasn't you that &*(&*d up. As to lifters, google search the model. You probably can get them off e-bay or their are yards and stuff that you can get them or a bunch of websites like automotivepartswarehouse.com (not sure of url). I have found that Hyundai parts work the best with Hyundai cars though so I'd look at the yard or e-bay for a set. :smokin:

A/T fluid at 12,000 :That is overdoing it! 30,000 maybe! 60,000 more like it!

NO WAY ! For 60K minimum $500 for Routine Maintenance; which is basically INSPECTIONS (Dealers need to make up for the cheap cars they sold you!); and any service: EXTRAS (Parts and Labor) are the Timing Belt/Drive Belt/Plugs/ Fuel Filter/Coolant/A-T Fluid and Filter/etc..
I wouldn't count on less than $1,200-1,500 bill .

Not to be argumentative but if you expect a "$1,200-$1,500 for antifreeze removal and replacement $100, timing belt change $300, Spark Plugs and wires $60, Fuel filter $100 (PIA), I drive manual but $70 should cover AT fluid and never heard of replacing or having an auto tranny fluid filter that needed to be changed. Let's say you have air. 2 belts $40. PVC valve $5. I'm not great at math but that comes to $700 in my calculations. I'm sure you can take it to a dealer who will do same for twice that amount but you must be like the rest of us on the forum for whom money is no object. Forgot Oil and Filter $25. = $725. To date, I've owned my car 6 years and never have I spent anywhere's near $1,000 on preventive maintenance and I have had it all taken care of and take good care of car. I suggest you shop around a bit before dumping a grand on some fuel injector cleaner or deal of the week special at the Dealer. Find a good mechanic and have work done elsewhere. (Use Hyundai parts). That's all my unsolicited advice for the day. All the best. Freddy :smokin:

Agreed!

If it springs a leak all over your timing belt, would you leave that one in or replace? Even if they throw you the $100 water pump for free when you swap out the belt, they will more than make up for it in the service fees. And speaking of warranty work - I don't know about you and your dealer who charges $1500 for a $60,000 mile inspection and timing belt swap out - but if your water pump goes, then they will have to open up the whole can of worms again. For a guy who spends $1500 on a $10,000 car's basic maintenance requirements in one trip to the shop, I would think that swapping it out for $100 would be a good deal. The choice is yours of course. Just like bald tires, brakes, etc. I ain't trying to blast your ship out of the water guy but I think you're getting hosed by the dealer if they are charging you those prices for 60,000 mile "tune-up." I'd suggest you shop around for a good mechanic and use Hyundai parts. I am not Finbar O'Neill so you can take what I say with however many grains of your favorite substance. I trust you, like me, did not buy a Hyundai because you have an enormous trust fund and figured you'd buy the cheapest possible car on the planet. N'est pas? I wish you well and am not Mr. Goodwrench but I think you're getting hosed and I'm doing you a favor. You can take it or leave it as you wish. All the best. Freddy
